Just thought that the self-destruct aspect might receive some attention. Like, when you know your screwd when you got 7 elite frigs orbitting you and pounding you with ...lots of guns..why not make the self-destruct ability do some samage? It may be pointless to some people, but the bigger the ship, the more the damage. If you make it so...say a thorax did X amount of damage, it could potentially take a few frigs with it. i mean if your jammed and scrambled and you know your going to hell, why not take a few people with ya?

It's a good idea but it could lead to griefing in secure space if a bunch of frigates went to a Covetor in 1.0 and all self destructed.
Why walk when you can skip? |

That'd not be too hard to solve.
Self destruct damaging non-flagged ships in secure space would have to criminally flag the pod.

(referring to the self-destruct thing I mean) I have a very large appetite for destruction in ALL forms :) But my idea for implementing this is that ALL exploding ships should do damage. They already created shrapnel GRAPHICALLY, why not program it to actually exist in game mechanics, and hence do damage when it hits you? I think you should get kinetic damage from chunks of shrapnel hitting you, and explosive/thermal damage if you're too close and you get hit by the blast wave :) ___________________________________________ ^^^***---All things serve the Beam---***^^^ |

That'd not be too hard to solve.

You could always make it a low slot moduleā like hit this to explode you ship with the force of 1 million fusion bombs. That module could be illegal in high sec space ether to fit or to carryā
If not a moduleā you could make noob ships just do almost no damageā.
But hey when do the devs listen to any ideas we haveā

Personally i think thats a blooming DUMB idea. it takes 120 seconds to self destruct 7 elite frigs will take about 2 seconds to kill you..

mmm interesting idea - illegal to use in high sec systems perhaps low sec only - then make it you self destruct in 5 seconds that way if some of those pesky jammers get to close you just go boom and you have 7 pods.

There has been a module listed on market for that purpose. Was named "Hellfire" or something, looked like a smartbomb and had something about self destruction in it's description, and doing hell of a lot of damage. Seems to have disappeared lately, tho.

Terrible idea - if you were too rubbish to beat the enemy, why should you get a free pop at them for no effort? If your fit was crap, if you didnt bring friends, if you were stupid and flying a BS solo, if you didnt pay attention to the scanner, why should you get to take your better-trained, -prepared, -skilled, -lucked, -setup enemies with you? ---:::---

actualy i like this idea quite a bit but it would have to be carefully done to avoid abuse. I think two things would have to be balanced, the ammount of dammage done/blast radius and the delay from triggering the self destruct to actualy going boom..
Dammage :-
perhaps make it equivilent to the force of 1 smatrbombs of the class fitted to the ship normally divided by the percentage of cap remaining..?
range :-
standard for the type of smart bomb normally fitted to the ship divided by the ammount of cap remaining
activation delay :-
20 seconds?

A warning in space would appear to warn the attackers.
Like PlayerX activated the self destruct mode.
Self destruct in 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
Self destruct sequence can be aborted till the last 5 seconds, after it's irreversible
If attackers chose to remain to be sure that the pilot actually selfs destructs they need to be fast to bail out it the last 5 seconds.
Selfdestruct CANNOT be activated in Empire Space unless there is a ship from a corp in war with you less than X kms away.
Frigates damage would need to be very very low to avoid someone to create an alt corp to declare war at another alt corp and the use a ship at war to be able to exploit this and kill others.
BS selfdestructing to kill another BS would have little sucess unless the enemy BS was badly damaged, but against a swarm of frigates would be very effective, and the frigate pilots would have barely time to bail out.
If in an empire war someone is caught in a self destruct blast without having anything to do with it the solution is simple. Don't go fly arround when people are fighting (specialy if it's to steal their loot) because you could end up DEAD.

They could always revoke insurance, say, if you blew it up and took a few with you, insurance would be null and voided. Just another one of those precautions that people dont abuse it. or you could put a module on it to increase its damage X amount of times and a penalty making it .5 for however many mods you got on it.
