Hey, I wonder what will be good Caldari ship to do Advanced / Standard Combat Missions Level 1 & 2 (mostly 2)??
and what Fitting do you recommend to those ships??
I am newbie to EVE so I have no idea about ships and their fitting (yet)

For level 2 you want Caracal cruiser with heavy missiles. For level one you now have new Corax destroyer as a missile ship. |

Depends, are you more skilled in Hybrids or Missiles ?
With Missiles, a Kestrel (frigate) with 4 Light Missile Launchers and an Afterburner/Microwarpdrive can eat most mission 'rats (frigates in L1, mostly frigates in L2).
Or, if you have the Destroyer skill, a Corax, also with Light Missile Launchers and a propulsion mod ... it's almost overkill for level 2 missions ...
With Hybrids, a Merlin (frigate) with 75mm or 125mm railguns, the same prop mod, and the like will also be good.
And for the Destroyer side, same thing with a Cormorant, but that one is a tad harder to fit. |

I use (ungrouped) rapid light launchers on a caracal for L2. So many frigs, it's just faster imo. |

This. I haven't used the Caracal since its upgrade, but heavy missiles aren't optimal for level 2 missions. You'll do much better using the rapid lights ungrouped. Target 5 frigs, let loose, 5 gone in 2 volleys.

Advice from me - whatever ship you choose - a frigate, destroyer or cruiser skill it up to level 4. Any combat ship (such one you will need for missions) start shining at level 4 related skill and excells when you reach level 5.
Two paths are more promising - frigates and cruisers. These skills are necessary later for wide range of bigger or more advanced hulls. Google for EvEmon and it will help you to develop your future.
Also, I would stay at one hull for a month and skill a bit. Here is a nice article about that: http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Caldari_Basic_Ship_and_Skill_Guide A bit old but fails only in ship descriptions. Ideas are still valid about fitting, capacitor and weapons skills.
Personally I would avoid hybrids for missioning. Missiles are just more effective. You will need them later on Drake (still very good for lvl3 and some lvl4 if you don't pull wholw room aggro) and Tengu. In terms of drones - skill them after you get HML tech 2, but before you dare to fly Raven ;). One day however you will need to skill some gunnery to be able to fly hulls of other factions. But this is far, far before you I guess. And don't forget about spending some time to get Noctis. On lvl3 you will earn a lot from salvage. On lvl3 a Cormorant is just fine salvager/loot collector.

If you're using missiles, even a Kestrel can get the job done by kiting the rats outside their range, I used a Kestrel for L1s, SoE Arc and L2s and never lost it. Will help you save some money by skipping the Caracal, although right now I'd probably use the Corax for L2s/SoE and then just save up for a Drake for L3s. |

Nice idea of fun there ... but for a "starter" character, might be a tad skill intensive ...
Quickest bang for buck, IMHO : Kestrel with Light Launchers, IIRC you start with the skills for it, just need an AB and you're good to go ... L1s will be a piece of cake, and most L2s too.
I haven't done the Caldari Career Agents missions, but I'd bet they give you one in one of the Military or Advanced Military missions ... it's one of the two "revamped" Combat Frigates now. |

seeing as the 'general' basic progression is
L1 Mission --> Frigate L2 Mission --> Cruiser L3 Mission --> Battlecruiser L4 Mission --> Battleship L5 Mission --> A Fleet
how is the advice for Caracal or Moa skill intensive for Level 2 missions ??
as they are both A) Cruisers B) Caldari Ships |

It's *good* advice, don't get me wrong, but seeing the current prices of Cruisers (around 10 mils in my region), I honestly thing that range and speed tanking L2 missions in a Kestrel is more cost effective ... and allows the pilot to concentrate on getting his skills up without having to save tons of ISKies for the cruiser.
I also work from old notions, tough, didn't try the revamped Cruisers after I reactivated after a two-year hiatus, so the Caracal and Moa might well be more noob-friendly than in my memory ...
I didn't say it correctly tough ... I blame the champagne at the Xmas dinner |

the caracal was given 2 extra low slots, i suspect to allow for targetting/tracking modules to be used but the planned TD changes were dropped, and they still do not affect missiles i expect this to change at some point, probably during the latter part of the ongoing revamp of the various hulls away from the current generic "tier based philosophy" towards a more specific "role based philosophy"
a cruiser as far as i can remember has always been in the 8-10m cost range after completing the tutorials and the SOE Epic i had around 25-35m completing just 1 Level 1 mission enabled (Caldari Navy) L2 Agents at that point and mission rewards scale apropriately even without social skill training so financing one should not be an issue
Moving up through ship classes isnt all that skill intensive, nor does it take very long for basic access to most standard classes What takes the time is learning which ship is the right tool for the task your about to undertake, something thats generally only learned through direct experience and forum research, and being able to fit them well (ie Tech2 Fits). Some of the old info is being changed by the revamp but most of it is still applicable. |
