Question:
Is it possible / viable to roam low sec with 2 or 3 fleet members, or does the risk / reward ratio lean to heavily on "risk"?

The question should have read null-sec instead of low-sec, doh! |

New players with a good attitude is something most players appreciate.
I'm not really into the low sec scene myself but I tend to do quite some wormhole ganking with my alts. As someone said earlier it's pretty easy to spot the new players on their behavior and I have been happy to help these guys out with advice should they be willing to listen.
I specifically remember a poor soul that just had moved in to a C3 wormhole and was in the middle of running his first wormhole anomaly ever in a Typhoon. To get this story into context I'm just going to say that me and a friend clear one of those sites in something like 4-5 minutes (long time since I timed, but i believe it's arround that). This poor guy had spent 3 hours finishing it.
Evil as we are we warped in and grabbed him just as he was about to start salvaging (in the same Typhoon) and ransomed his pod for an outrageous ammount of isk and stole his salvage/loot. When we actually realized from looking at NPC kill statistics and looking at his actual Typhoon fit we realized he couldn't have done this for long, and after starting a convo with him we realized that it was infact his first anomaly ever.
Felt so sorry for him we replaced all his isk and spent a long time guiding him.

Your maller, arbi, punisher fleet is good imo. Maller as bait to tank dps and arbi as neuting and punisher as tackle. Only problem is that they dont have that good ability to gtfo when things go sour, maller and arbi are kinda slow.

Roaming nulsec with 3 is viable too, but maybe not in Cruisers but something faster. Missing gateguns means that frigate sized hulls are much more viable. With enough patience you could take down the odd ratting battleship which are much more common in nulsec than lowsec. |

I caught a complete n00b mining in lowsec in his only cruiser once, I blew him up. He was pretty kewl about it, and he shot back ...turned out he was like a little kid so I gave him enough isk to replace it and his mods and told him where to find semi decent ore to mine without getting shot... |

It was a great fight last night, I think we enjoyed that one more than our kill (still our only one to date ). The Vagabond ecm drones knocked me out of the fight and saved your bacon!
Strange thing though... those losses last night actually gave us a lot more confidence!
We where soo close to getting the Vengeance and we walked away from that fight with a lot of belief that the kills will start coming soon!
In fact, by the time I got back to to high sec the other 2 fleet members where shipped up and ready to go out again, which we did. Then "Bros with Frozs" who had killed us earlier in the week started to set-up a gate camp for us (BS's and BC's), but this time we spotted the signs much earlier and got away from them with no losses.

All we ask in null is that if you're going to wander in frigate hulls, don't use bombers... complete and total pain to catch, lol
Wandering low or null in small groups of two to five is actually a lot of fun and you can pick some decent fights. Yeah, you'll run into the occasional fleet of 50 to 200, but even then you might pick off a straggler if they (or the FC) are terrible.
Going back to your Drake comment above, use EM based damaged on them and they'll melt or better yet, if one of you train to at least fly a Blackbird and slap a Caldari jammer or two on there and problem solved since they can't shoot you if they can't target you. I have read a lot of stuff to do with the Goons and the quite funny recruitment scam thread, along with all the "botting" stuff etc.
To any Goon who is in a position of authority, Deorum Viatores has a counter offer, unfortunately my current corporate management skills prevent me from making this offer available to any of your grunts:
We will accept a freshly created alt of any Goon director and happily teach them all we have learnt to date with regards low-sec PvP. We offer you an environment to play EvE where your own personal actions really can dictate the success of an engagement.
We are not yet drowning in kill mails, but it wouldn't be fun if it wasn't a challenge!
In order to qualify for this limited time offer you merely need to do the following:
Raid your alliance funds Steal / destroy as many assets as possible Drop all your territory claims etc etc
Maybe you where thinking of un-subbing anyway and the lure of low-sec PvP is the flame to re-ignite your enthusiasm for the game.
This thread was going so well...

Hey Saiyon
Glad you enjoying Lo-sec pvp, in fact im pretty sure I made a tactical retreat from you and your mate sometime last week in my slicer when I decided I probably wouldn't be able to take both of you. That area of Amarr Lo-Sec has started to get busier this last week or two.
I'm quite new to solo and small gang pvp (or any pvp in general) but over the last few months I've been going out on my own or with a couple of mates to try and learn the basics and have found most people to be really cool when you do manage to get in a fight and chat afterwards. If I see you about I'll say hi or and point anything intresting I might have found on my solo roams.
Quick couple of questions to the experts.
Last night I engaged a phantasm in my speed tanking slicer in a belt but he warped off before I could get a point on him, I was hoping that with him tanking rats I might be able to take him down, would this be possible with the tracking bonuses from a phantasm if im orbiting or keeping at range @20km and hitting him with scorch?
We had a chat and he followed me a couple of jumps as I headed back home, as I jumped to a gate I noticed a vexor had just eneterd the system I was about to leave, he warped from gate and so I thought I'd give it a go as the pvp buzz was still strong within, warped to the 1st belt and there he was, so i pointed him turned on the mwd and orbitted him @ 20km. Got to his armour and hit a bit of a wall but was expecting that, his drones then started to eat me and I decided to disengage as I've got quite attached to my slicer but if i'd killed his drones (not to sure if I would of got them before they got me looking back) would I have been able to take him out?
I escaped with around 1/2 armour to a safespot and said a quick good fight in local which the lad responded to, but then the phantasm lad turned up in system and was suprised that the vexor hadn't killed me and I said I was new to this so maybe I picked the wrong target ( he also said I could fight him if I wanted and he wouldn't fire but I'm not that new lol. although to be fair he was pleasant throughout).
And a small gang is sometime rewarded with a bonus

If you're in a small ship and they have drones out, kill the drones, keep the target pointed and you'll have a much better chance of winning. You absolutely need to get those drones down quickly.

Cheers fella, I think at the time I was suprised how quick they started to eat me but looking back I should of expected it considering I had no tank to speak of and gone for them as soon as he launched them, maybe overheating my mwd at the same time to reduce the affect of his drones.
I think in most other fights I've had, I've maybe had the element of suprise and they haven't launched them, when the 3 of us took down the navy geddon, as soon as I had it pointed I started on his drones and the when the boys warped in we all got rid of those first as they would be the most damaging thing to our small ships, seems like I learnt something, forgot it and now re-learnt it, thanks for the advice. |

Yeah, this is another great bit of advice, you will need to figure out all the overview stuff too.
I usually have 4 tabs/overview settings specifically for pvp
1. Combat/logistic ships only + gates (no fleet members) 2. Wrecks + fleet members + stations + gates + combat ships + pirate npcs (ie. no concord, navy, faction police etc) 3. Drones + gates + stations only (no fleet members) 4. Gates + stations only (for those gtfo now moments, nothing else should be selected unless you want additional celestials for some reason or another) |

Current overview setup in order of tabs
Yarr!! - Shows Reds and neuts, nothing else Drones - Should show drones, but no matter how many times I mess with it, nothing Friends - Blues Stations / Gates - This has turned into a celestial tab really, planets, gates, stations, belts IE: Places to find things to shoot GTFO - Stations, gates, POS towers and Jump Bridges
Got my settings from my former alliance *points to a triple headed rabbit tattoo on his right arm* hence the "Yarr!!" and "GTFO" and they've worked wonders for me. Well, that drone tab hasn't, but meh... WIDot, Best Dot, Even Sans Dot! -Vric |
