Is there money in it? I have an alt that can fly a Fenrir, but when I look at the contracts...
50% could be handled by a Minmatar Industrial.
45% seem to be invitations to be blown up for the collateral (sure I will transport that 1 trit 25 jumps for 1 mill and put up 250 mill collateral).
5% look appropriate for a freighter, but they really do not pay that much. And given a Fenrir is 1.5 billion isk...is it worth it? |

Isn't the Fenrir a T1 freither (in reply to the 50%), I think you mean an industrial
As for Is there money in it? = Look at Red Frog, if there wasn't money in it why would they be so big.

Yeah, need to edit that.
If you do things in bulk than you can make money (1000 x1 is a 1000. 1 x 1 is 1). For a solo is it worthwhile? |

Yes, there is money in hauling. But it's not in public contracts. Either you join an established reputable freighter service (like Red Frog or Push), or you start your own - perhaps for your friends, corporation, alliance. Or you can look at the markets and search for stuff to buy, haul, and sell elsewhere yourself. |

However I wouldn't recommend buying a freighter before you have at least a vague idea what to do with it.
Indeed. You don't buy a freighter because you want to make all sorts of money with it. You buy a freighter because you want the utility that comes with having a freighter, and the courier contracts and player courier services are just a nice way to make money on the side while you have nothing better to do with it. |

I hear ya. I fancy moving into WH space some day and I thought I would hold off buying a freighter until then. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything and maybe ZOMG I should have one now. |

You can make good money hauling goods either for courier contracts or for your own inter-regional trades, especially since you have been clever enough to spot the cheapskates and pirate scams mixed in with reputable offers in the public courier contract offerings.
Station trading is said to make money faster, but hauling lets you fly around in spaceships.
Personally, I'd recommend flying around with a cheap industrial first, and getting blown up a couple times due to your own mistakes, before investing in a freighter or blockade runner. Cloaking skills, good bookmarks and an alt to scout the route ahead should all be helpful.
EVE University has some useful information on hauling:

EVE Central has a great Trade Tool for finding good trade items to haul between regional markets:
http://eve-central.com/tradetool/
Note that the EVE Central information is not always current. It helps to park a couple of alts in strategic locations to check each region's market and upload info to the EVE Central site before using the tool.

if your just doing public contacts I'd say a blockade runner. my alt's has inertia stabs on it and aside from the cloak it warps on alignment which only takes seconds, ive had the same one for years and it mostly gets used for hauling in and out of low sec trade hubs. The last couple times I ran him in his charon to rens and jita he has been scaned by scout frigs on the gates. I pretty much keep the freighter parked except for mass bulk personal stuff and use his orca or blockade runner. |
