I know that the Drake is a good PvE ship. I also know that they're looking at removing the shield resistance/kinetic damage bonus on the Drake and giving it velocity + rate of fire. (CSM meeting from earlier this year)..
So the question is...should I go with the Drake now and change to a Ferox later...or just go with a Ferox in anticipation of the changes?
Or maybe some other option?
I can really honestly fly ships from any of the four factions. I've been sticking with missiles mostly due to the ability to change damage types...
I'm also missioning in Minnie space...which means angels...which means explosive...which means missiles or projectiles would be the most optimal - I just don't like minmatar ships...I do like hybrids..which is a problem |

You could always go hybrids, diversify between Caldari and Gallente and move into the Proteus, Moros, and other hybrid powerhouses down the road. Hybrids are the Gallente world, but would also support your current Caldari agenda for now.
I enjoy hybrids aswell, but I also enjoy autocannons, missiles, and lasers! So.... /two cents :P

The only thing I don't enjoy weapon-wise is really projectile weaponry...I just don't like it for some reason.
And I've thought about that.
I'm in level 3's now....was thinking I'd take the Ferox over the Brutix due to the shield resistance per level on the Ferox...
I appreciate your advice. Most people suggest the Brutix over the Ferox....but Iike the shield resistances on the Ferox.. |

First: it's not finally said the Drake will lose its tank bonus.
Apart from that...Caldari ships have two aspects inbuilt which make them naturally good for PvE:
- Shield tanking: leads to the ability to fit full tank&gank. In PvE no ewar med slots are needed. Shield tanking is mostly (if not always) better in pure PvE situations.
- Missiles: even now after the HM change missiles offer the best damage projection. They have weaknesses - but not really in PvE. Real damage type selection on some Caldari missile ships helps in addition. Some find missiles boring, nevertheless they are effective. Matter of taste.
The Drake will still be able to do lvl3 missions without any hassle at all. Lvl4s can become a bit more tricky I guess, but this applies to all other BCs as well. Considering both arguments above the Drake will still be one of the best BCs for PvE.
Having said that, IMHO the Drake is a slow lvl4 runner - without real damage type choice. There are MUCH better options. In your case I'd check Navy Raven or Navy Scorp. True damage type selection and more damage. Tengu projects damage better than any other T3 cruiser. The Rattlesnake is badass with the boosted drone damage mods now (in case you consider to use sentries).
If you really want to be effective with missions in Minmatar space you've 3 options imo: missiles, projectiles or drones. |

I thought about that as well. Sentries take a lot of specialization and it'd be a couple of weeks before I could even use them...that's the main thing deterring me from using them.. |
