On a bright night i headed back with my Merlin to my Headquarter, approaching a gate i noticed a NPC pirate. Thinking this would be a nice last battle before loggin i attacked it with 2 laser guns and 2 rocket's. Before i could figure out what whas actualy wrong i lost my ship, i whas attacked by 2 sentry guns meaning one of the rockets must have caused collateral damage to them. The rocket i had equipped had a damage range of 50 meter (if i am not mistaking). Needless to say i had a bad mood, just playing a week and loosing a full equipped merlin is a huge set back.
I think the sentry gun thing has to be looked at. I mean the fact that pirates fly heapily around a sentry gun is bad enough but being killed by a sentry gun while attacking a pirate makes it even worse. Not to mention the negative 0,1 faction hit i got.

Sucks to hear. You'll get a new ship in no time. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way. Security status goes up by .1 every day so you'll be back on your feet in no time. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger... or something.

Are you sure this was a NPC pirate and not one military or police ship ... icons are the same! one can easily mix them, esp when tired ...
I saw not even one NPC pirate on guarded gates since patch 1105, but a major increase in NPC police presence

Yes i am 100% positive this whas a pirate, there are actualy a lot of pirates roaming the gates.

Some people have been known to make alt chars with names similar to pirates and stay at a gate.
From what I hear they used shuttles which is the same icon as a pirate.

I see all sorts of pirates at gates. What's worse is usually the same gates have cops. It's kind of anti-realistic.

First rule of engagement never ever fire missiles/smart bombs when near structures/friendly ships in a high security system.

yeep happened to me chased a pirate he fired at me I replied to be killed by the sentry guns!
so its not a lone happening. send a petition but do'nt expect a reply I did'nt get 1.
