Hello PvP'ers !
I only recently got into pvp (not true as I haven't yet shot anyone) but I'm willing too.
I need help deciding for a good solo pvp ship / fit if possible. I am focused on gunnery. Nothing put in missiles.
How I would like things to go in a confrontation :
- Get in the fight fast - tank decently - throw enough dps to end frigates / cruisers and similar ships. - overall I would like to behave like a brawler, not so much kitting (I'm still at the beginning with ship maneuvering)
Should not be an expensive loadout as I would probably lose a lot. Been thinking to buy like 10-15 ships and for each time I lose one, to think at what I've done wrong...
Thank you ! |

Incursus! High dps (blasters) and a mean active tank bonus. |

The Incursus is a great brawler and is cheap, easy to fit, and tank an ungodly amount. Here's a basic dual rep setup, downgrade any T2 items you cannot use to meta 3 or 4.
Incursus: Dual Rep GOD TANK
Highs: GÇóLight Ion Blaster II x 3 (Caldari Navy Antimatter S)
Mids: GÇóExperimental 1mn Afterburner I GÇóJ5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler GÇóSmall Capacitor Booster II (Navy Cap booster 200)
Lows: GÇóDamage Control II (if you can't use this just use the Emergency Damage Control I, the Meta 3 and 4 versions are stupidly overpriced) GÇóSmall Armour Reparier II x2 GÇóAdaptive Nano Plating II
Rigs: GÇóSmall Auxillary Nano Pump I x2 GÇóSmall Anti-Explosive Pump I
Just orbit your opponent at 500 and brawl them down. Pulse your reppers and inject cap as needed. If you go up against a target with neutralizers, Inject cap as soon as you have been neuted enough for 1 cap booster to fill you up. Easier to stay topped off than it is to try and come back from no cap. Good luck and fly safe

Both of these ships really look appealing to me. I also checked different fits and they really seem to do the job i'm aiming to.
The only thing with Taranis is that I don't have any skill to fly it :( But I guess sometime I will have to take it up though, as I saw some cool pvp videos with it. |

I don't know what you guys are doing recommenting T2 mods and ships to someone who hasn't PvP'ed. Unless he has very deep pockets, he will be bankrupted very soon.
My recommendation is buy and fit 10-20 of your favorite T1 fit for a combat frigate. Personally I like the Rifter:
Quote: [Rifter, Pew Pew Boat]
Damage Control I 200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Small Inefficient Armor Repair Unit
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I 'Langour' Drive Disruptor I Experimental 1MN Afterburner I
Small 'Knave' Energy Drain 150mm Light Gallium Machine Gun, Republic Fleet Fusion S 150mm Light Gallium Machine Gun, Republic Fleet Fusion S 150mm Light Gallium Machine Gun, Republic Fleet Fusion S
Small Projectile Burst Aerator I Small Projectile Collision Accelerator I [Empty Rig slot]
Good generic fit, and great in gangs. For more of an emphasis on getting up close quickly, try a MWD fit:
Quote: [Rifter, Smackster]
Damage Control I 200mm Reinforced Crystalline Carbonide Plates I Small Inefficient Armor Repair Unit
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I 'Langour' Drive Disruptor I Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I
Salvager I 150mm Light Gallium Machine Gun, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S 150mm Light Gallium Machine Gun, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S 150mm Light Gallium Machine Gun, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
Small Projectile Burst Aerator I Small Projectile Collision Accelerator I [Empty Rig slot]
Of course, after the recent frigate rebalancing, the Rifter is not the best ship by a mile, and there are similar fits out there for Slashers, Merlins, Kestrels, Incursopodes, Tristans, Punishers, Tormentors, etc. I'd encourage you to find one you like and fly it over and over to learn PvP via experience.
If for some reason you need heavier firepower, for only a little more ISK you can upgrade to a destroyer (but you lose a bunch of speed and survivability in the process).
I would also highly recommend to stick to roaming with others when possible. Solo play is hard as is, without having low SP, and T1 modules holding you back.

How expensive are the T2 fits ? (i can't get in game currently)
As I said in the first post, I'm looking for cheap fits. Since I guess in EVE people have different sizes of pockets, for me, cheap / affordable would mean around 30 million / ship.
Is that OK ? |

Is that OK ? Some ballpark values:
- T1 fit frigate = 1-2 mil ISK
- T2 fit frigate = 10 mil ISK
- T1 fit destroyer = 4-5 mil ISK
- T2 fit destroyer = 15 mil ISK
- T2 fit interceptor = 20 mil ISK
- T2 fit assault frigate = 30-40 mil ISK
I was speaking in the realms of "affordable" meaning "you can lose 3-4 ships a night without being bothered". At 30 mil ISK per ship, that would run you 100 mil a night, which (at least for me) hurts. I see now what you mean.
I make 200-300 millions per day without forcing or boring myself so I guess I could start with the frigate T2 fit like the Incursus.
Great feedback from everyone! It is really helping me plan out my start in pvp. |

You could go for one of the new attack Cruisers, they run faster then most Destroyers.
[Thorax, Ion] Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Tracking Enhancer II Power Diagnostic System II Damage Control II
Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Experimental 10MN MicroWarpdrive I J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I

Medium Core Defense Field Extender I Medium Core Defense Field Extender I Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Warrior II x5 Hornet EC-300 x5
I prefer Armor but if you are going solo then go Shield. I use a 3% Grid Implant and 1 Meta 4 Extender instead of the PDU for a second TE. There is also theslightly slower Rupture and Vexor.
[Rupture, Shield] Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II Damage Control II

^ Throw some CPU around and you can trade speed for DPS modules.
If you have the SP they cost about as much as an Assault Frigate fit out, 30-35mil. |

Going along the lines of the new Attack Cruisers, you have the classic armour Thorax, +1 mid slot Thorax: Dual Web Armour
Highs: Heavy Electron Blaster II x5 (Caldari Navy Antimatter M)
Mids: Experimental 10mn Microwarpdrive I Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I X5 Prototype Engine Enervator x2
Lows: Damage Control II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II x2 Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 1600mm Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Rigs: Medium Ancillary Current Router I Medium Trimark Armour Pump I x2
Drones: Hammerhead II x5
Basic tactics. Get up close, turn off the mwd, and tear them a new one. The reason I don't have light drones on there is because the target will be dual webbed and scrammed so the mediums won't have a problem landing hits. |
