Every 2 or 3 minutes everything stops working, followed by this message after about 30 secs.

If you have road runner and you have one of the newer modems, you'll have to go into the modem @ 192.168.0.1 and disable its firewall...might be some other ISP modems that are the same way. |

You're talking to a complete computer-illerate here, so you'll need to keep it simple. |

If you are on windows hold down the windows key on the keyboard and press R. It will bring up the run command. Type in cmd then hit enter. Then follow his instructions for flushing.
Ipconfig /flushdns

In case ya forgot. Nope. Re-started game, everything ok for about 2 mins, then all commands ineffective, followed half a minute later by "socket closed". |

I've had this problem and I'm running EVE on an Apple.
I found that my WiFi was spotty, cutting in and out, the price of having a refurb'ed Apple.
I solved it by hooking up the Apple, directly to the router.
That may have an effect on your problem. Only 40 rounds per gun... I hate reloading in the middle!

That may have an effect on your problem. Nope. Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm running everything wired.
I've been playing for over a year without anything other than an occasional problem, and nothing has changed at my end. All other online activity is fine.
I tried the repair tool, which at first refused to run but later reported a successful repair.
Er . . . , except that now I can't even open the launcher, so EVE is now effectively dead on my computer. |

Have you run an anti-virus/ anti mal-ware program?
There maybe something interfering with the launcher.
Also, have you run a system check, or a disk clean up?
I've had cache problems before with other games, and sometimes that helped.

The latest repair tool kills the launcher. It happened to me twice.
OP: who is your internet provider? I never had dc issues until my ISP gave me a new modem. I had to manually disable its firewall. Your ISP could have also flagged EVE ss a torrent service.
Please reply. |

If you have persistent connectivity problems you need to file a petition. CCP can then talk to your ISP (that you need to name) and try to solve the problem. If you take all the sand out of the box, only the cat poo will remain. |

Until we know what ISP it is it could be a simple problem. Like I said - a modem with an active firewall. |

Sounds more like an ISP problem (connection or modem) then it is an EVE problem Old look Corporation recruitment thread Corporation Website |

Yep, done all the usual non-techie stuff.

I've been with them for years and use my own (i.e. not supplied by my ISP) router, which I've also been using for several years. The only firewall in use is the Windows standard one.
Never had a serious problem until now.
Why would flagging as a torrent make a difference, and why now, after playing for over a year? Besides, torrents have never been a problem previously .

If an ISP flags something as a torrenting service (peer-to-peer) they will more than likely block it.
As to the first part of your question...I...had to re-install the game both times.
I had played EVE off and on for YEARS and didn't start having problems until after retribution.
I don't know much about either ISP since I'm not a UK resident. Every broadband service in the US has a router or cable box it routes into before a router....so I really don't know what to suggest after this...
I would suggest port forwarding...but I don't know what type of router you have, and I've also never heard of that being successful.
Maybe call your ISP and ask if the port EVE runs on is open?

I assumed that's what you meant, but my question remains: why would they do that? Torrents are a recognised method of downloading files - why would they block them? If they did, torrents wouldn't exist, but they do - all over the 'net. In any case, as I've said, torrents have never been a problem for me, so my ISP clearly doesn'y block them. |

A lot of torrenting programs used to use certain ports that are typically flagged as a p2p port. As far as I know, the one EVE uses, can or may be flagged as such.
The reason they don't do it is because most clients attempt to use ports outside of said range....but...yeah.
IE: The port for EVE is blocked by my modem's firewall because it's inside of the p2p range for my ISP. |

You will most likely have a flat rate for your internet connection. Your ISP wont. In fact they will pay for the traffic that is leaving their network and get payed for traffic that enters their network (it's a bit more complex, with some fixed fees and some variables). As such they want to have their customers download more then they up load. If the traffic on their network is crossing a certain point they may even make a loss.

I recovered my launcher via the link in this post: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2345676#post2345676 .
The re-installed launcher started me back at square one with the EULA, took me through the new player video sequence again and fouled up all my settings - a bit tedious, but a small price to pay for getting back into the game.
The closed socket issue seems to have ceased, but there's now an incursion in progress. Could the start-up of the incursion have caused my problems? |
