I was thinking about getting a new monitor and still cannot make my mind up over LCD or CRT. I prefer CTR due to the flexibility of changing the resolutions without losing sharpness and the higher refresh rates, plus I see ghosting pretty bad.
But then again LCD come in widescreen versions and as I spend more time in Eve then most other games I was wondering what is widescreen like on a widescreen LCD? Do you still get the black borders on the top and bottom of the screen, like you do on a normal CRT? Is native widescreen a lot better then normal modes?
If I do go for a monitor it will be a 22ö Vision Master Pro 514 which is meant to provide better/more vibrant colours and more sharpness then LCD screens. But its hugh taking up loads of space and useÆs a lot of watts. I know LCD have better colours then cheap monitors so itÆs an easy choice in the low end market. But bit it gets a little more tricky to choose between an LCD and CRT when you look at the high end modules.
So Eve LCD userÆs which did you prefer your old CRT or new LCD? If there was even a difference.

using widescreen on a widescreen monitor loses the black borders BUT you need to play in full screen mode not windowed.
You need to get used to the new view tho.

Edited by: Ionosphere on 08/06/2005 11:30:32 I play on a 17" widescreen TFT, but I still get the Black lines top and bottom when using the widescreen mode.
shutting off widescreen just opens the top and bottom for a little extra background :) might just be my monitor though as it has only does 1280x768 as its widescreen option.
however it is very handy with 2 accounts running windowed at 1024x768. very easy switching when needed. would highly recommend it. I just want a bigger one now

Yeah I have a widescreen laptop and it rocks. So much space on the screen for windoews, chat etc. You really do have to play in fullscreen mode to get the benefits, but i can also run two clients side by side without much overlapping (lower res windows obviously).
The only problem is that at the real high res 1900 x 1200 its real difficult to see some of the EVE fonts sometimes.
The test patch seems to have changed the fonts so maybe they'll include some font scaling so I don't need glasses

I've got a sony laptop with widescreen - it's fine for eve. Not particularly better or worse - you dont get the black bands.
As for CRT over LCD -
Firstly avoid the iiyama monitors I had several 22" models and they were all crap at high res (1600*1200+), everything had a green & red 'halo' effect - looked horrible. Had them replaced several times no joy, heard similar tales from other people too.
Eventually I swapped the iiyama's for a LG Studioworks N2200P - which is lovely - pumps out heat & dwarfs the desk tho.
Recently swapped the that CRT for a Hyundai 19" 8ms TFT Panel, which I'm very happy with. Excellent for eve and no discernable ghosting in Counterstrike and the ilk.
If you decide you want a CRT - I'm selling the LG one above (let me know if your in the UK :-))

Dell 30' widescreen LCD, wallmounted, of course.
I have no idea how I lived without it. I will never go back!
