Anyone here know a good place in Edinburgh to buy a kilt? I'm going there in a week.

There's a good hire shop just down the road from me (haymarket terrace) dunno if they sell though.
Appart from that you could try the posh kilt shop on princes street (forget the name though) its one of the better makers I think

If you're not looking for a traditional kilt, http://www.utilikilt.com is REALLY cool. I suggest the "survival" one in camo. ___________________________________________ ^^^***---All things serve the Beam---***^^^ GDBT is recruiting! |

There are a few kilt shops that I can think of on the Royal Mile, one at the bottom of Dundas Street, and one near Haymarkt, but to be honest the best Kilt Shop I have been to for a fitted kilt is in Tillicoultry. ----------------------- Honor and Serve!

Where is Tillicoultry? Would that be anywhere close to Edinburgh?
Also, I intend to get a traditional kilt, but not necissarily the whole formal dress (Prince Charlie, Argyll, etc) unless I can afford it.

It's not far as such, just a pain in the ar*e to get to! You would need a train to Stirling and then a Bus.
The Edinburgh shops will be just as good, I just hate shopping in Edinburgh! Depending on what the kilt is for, consider buying an ex-hire kilt. You will save yourself a good few hundred. ----------------------- Honor and Serve!

Which tartan should I get? I kinda like the modern and hunting modern. The ancient is a bit too cheery and colorful...

Campbell Brown is my family one but i think Davidson is a nice one.
p.s. you've got to have a traditional tartan, Kilts are supposed to be traditional

This one :P http://www.scotlandonline.com/heritage/tartans2/Tartans/wr2062r.gif
If you have a Scots surname, you should buy that Tartan. Depending on which country you come from there are a few country tartans as well. ----------------------- Honor and Serve!
