The problem is the way I see it, is that you are invunerable when you're warping to a gate.
What if CCP made it so you would lose the "warp-status" sooner thus making it possible to get a lock before the person can jump. Any moduls the pilot with the insta has should be on a small timer so that you can only activate it when you would normally drop out of warp. (to solve the fact that a person needs to be in range to lock him, the signature of the warping ship should be dramaticly increased while the timer is active)
The only problem I see is that people would probably only get one shot off before the guy with the insta jumps. This would most likely miss since the "warping" ship is going to fast and thus making almost everything mis.
So instead of being able to shoot the person as soon as you have a lock, there should be a que for these weapons/modules that works on the same timer as the "insta-pilot" has on his moduals.
Senario:
Bob warps to the gate using an insta, while Jim is "camping" that gate. Bob drops out of "warp-status" the moment he shows up on Jim's scanner. Jim starts to lock him the moment he is in sensor range. (locks very fast, with the temporary signature increase of Bob's ship)
Jim has a lock and fires his guns, BUT since Bob's "warp-timer" is still running , Jim's guns only start to flash. (ativated)
Bob's timer runs out, his speed is next to nothing now, and he's right on top of the gate.
At the very same moment Bob's timer ran out, Jim's guns go off, hitting Bob for ??? damage!
Fortunatly for Bob, it wasn't enough to kill him, and so he get's to jump through the gate.

Actually the more I think about it...
the only 2 real changes my idea would require is
-the ability to lock a ship during warp. But not being able to do anything to it. (like you can't now)
- Give warping ships a giant increase in signature, so you can actually lock fast enough to make it count. Say 500%?
With this.
-no more invunerable insta warps to a gate. (since if someone is paying attention you could get shot)
-no change in traveling speed with insta's
Everybody wins?

Why not just make creating BMs easyer and a little more realistic
Example:
Add this to the creation of BMs
Offset XYZ with a Min to Max in offset of current position
 Sorry if I just showed how a simple change in code could calm MANY ppl down
Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy. |

theres still the issue that the many noobs dont have the advantage of many many bookmarks to use insta jumps as much as others do. There should be something formal to even the playing field, like the ability to warp within a closer distance to a target with the correct equipment.
least, thats my two cents.

Making it easier? It's actually very easy to do once you get the hang of it. Let alone that most bookmarks people have are copied from others. So I would sooner say make it harder.
As for the XYZ part, I doubt allot of people would get that right unless you actually are pretty good at math. And that wouldn't be to fair now would it.
I think that my idea doesn't really adress the issue about the advantages people with insta's have over the people without. But I think it would be a step in the right direction when it come to the [near] invunerable part of the insta bookmarks.
Personally I don't think the whole he's got insta's and I don't thing is very valid. If he's got em he either made them himself or went out to find someone that has them already. Seems to me that guy get's an advatage because he "worked" for the insta bookmarks. And so can the other guy.
