I recently lost a Retriever whist mining to some NPC pirates because I was AFK for a few minutes and my combat drones (launched and set on aggressive) did not automatically engage. When I noticed what was happening, it was too late to warp out and my ship was destroyed.
So I'm wondering how many other people have experienced similar issues with drones, and if so, how do you counter this? I created a petition but was told that drones are not guaranteed to automatically engage targets... sigh. |

The problem isn't the drones, my friend. The problem is above. If you go AFK, you run the risk of losing your ship. |

When a mechanic breaks and no longer works as advertised to the player, then I would say the problem is the mechanic. Pirate NPCs aren't a legitimate threat. |

I have always found you need to not only launch them on aggressive but actually tell them to attack the first target. After that they will auto attack. |

This is kind of my point. I can fully accept that if I am mining AFK, there are lots of things that could happen such as falling victim to a suicide gank etc. But if the game mechanic is not working as expected (in this case, drones engaging), can the player be held responsible?
Forgive me for a dramatic example, but say you set up a buy/sell order and then suddenly the buy order is changed unexpectedly which results in a loss to you, would the player be responsible? Creating buy/sell orders is just another AFK activity where the player expects the game mechanics to work as advertised. Nobody expects you to watch a buy/sell order constantly incase the game mechanic doesn't work correctly.
Maybe someone could find a reference which explicitly states that drones intentionally can not be relied on to automatically engage? |

I'd probably try and escalate the petition. If they want to confirm that aggressive drones aren't supposed to automatically engage, that'd be nice to know.

Same thing happened to me. My drones usually automatically fend off the rats. They are set to 'aggressive'. Two nights ago I lost my retriever while the drones sat idle. I was also wondering if the mechanic has somehow changed. |

Isn't there a value under the info tab that indicates an "activation range" or something like that?
On my Hobgoblin I think it's 1000m, I've watched belt rats stay 2-3000m away and the drones keep orbiting so I have to direct them to a target then as mentioned above they go autonomous. |

Just received a response from a GM:
"This is an intentional mechanic with the drone AI system. Drones will not always aggress hostile parties unless commanded to do so."
So there you have it! Drones will intentionally be stroppy sometimes. AFK miners, watch out! |

you know that posting internal communications between you and a GM is against the rules.
And its also very rude, no matter who it is; a GM or not. |

I'm kinda wondering if there's a new bug there, too... Since the last patch I've noticed that I have to hit the "F" key several times before drones actually engage (yes, aggressive is set, but I prefer telling the drones to attack which targets selectively). It gets really annoying when I have to hit the "F" key several times before the "Drones engaging blah blah" appears and the drones get to it.
Also have noticed some "Jump" issues on gates (not autopiloting): rt click on a gate, select "Jump" to warp to and jump (which has worked for 7 years), and sometimes it gets to the get within jump range and just sits there.
New bugs. Yay. And no, I'm not going to waste time filing a bug report when I'm fairly certain I'm not the only player in EveO that has these problems.
But let's concentrate on WiS, though. "Blow it all on Quafe and strippers." -á --- Sorlac |
