I'm new to this game and haven't done any PvP yet(except getting ganked in .4 by a raven) and I'm looking to get into some PvP in T1 frigates shortly. I was wondering if anyone uses the griffen as a tackler, it seems like it would be useful with it's 4 mid slots and 20% ewar range bonus per level (not exactly sure what modules that applies to specifically). Could anyone offer some info on this ship in a PvP role, I haven't seen any posts at all mentioning it.

PvP setup for a frig means a microwarp drive and warp disruptor and any guns you can fit.
The griffin does get an EW bonus. This applies to jammers. (ECM...) They eat through cap though so they may not be the best EW platforms simply because of their size.

Originally by: A CCP Intern "The Griffin is much used by the Caldari Navy as a support vessel in combat squadrons, using its impressive array of electronic gadgetry to disrupt the operation of target ships, making them easy prey for traditional combat vessels.
Special Ability: 5% bonus to kinetic missile damage and 20% bonus to Electronic Warfare optimal range per level."
Well, this affects a few systems besides Jammers, which are really a cruiser and above weapon system. Still, some of those frigates need updates to make them proficient and unique in a specialized role. Along with general frig environment changes, you might think this would come with some cap use reductions. With skills though [OH THE IRONY] the cap cost of disruptors, sensor dampers et all drops a good bit and can be more managable by frigate power core.

It's pretty good as a poor man's Buzzard. Lots and lots of med-slots means you can jam people. DO NOT expect to go head to head with a cruiser or battleship alone or with a small force and survive while shooting. Stay way far back, like 40km if you can, and watch out real carefully for drones. Or else... well... ouch.
Otherwise, good ship in my opinion. Ugly as sin that got smacked in the face with doodoo though. ---

Griffin makes a great addition to a small fleet or wolf-pack action. A team of 5 frigs can be very effective when one of them is a Griffin. We've taken down pairs of much larger ships, and it was the Griffin's target jamming that made it possible. Not much of a solo fighter, imho, but indispensable for a patrol group.

Seen it used with some success as a 6-strenght warp scrambler, if that's any help. -------------

griffen weekness is low cap. but as a tackler it can peforme ok. u also must need a sensor booster cuz it also has a high locking time.
before the EW changes having 1-2 rasial jammers was exselent idea. now i dont know how cap will fit into it |

Using racials you can usually keep one target jammed fairly solidly, from excellent range. Certainly helpfull if you have a decent team with you, considering it costs what a few hundred k ? :) . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

I have used it before with a alt. this was under the old damper rules. It did the job ( for low sp alt)for fast moving groups then. Now if you could get the cap stable it might be handy since 1 racial jammer can still be effective, though you need good EW skills to have a good chance. By then your better off in a black bird.

It works well with dampeners, forget an MWD cuz you won't have the cap for it. The Griffen won't do well solo but in a supporting role with light missiles and dampeners it excels. Rely on them not being able to lock you to survive, so stay right out at max weapon range. Let the ceptors do the scrambling and destroyers/assault frigs do the real damage.

i belive that griffen can take all other t1 frigs down easyly
Fit 2x launchers + xx Medi: 2xdampers+web.. you can lock all frigs down and web them that way they can some in range.. if you just stay around 7km from them.. and you dont need any mwd because you have the web then cant fly in range :) cant remeber, do it have 4 slots? if have.. then just fit an scrambler or mwd :) il take scrambler Low: Cap rechargers

I like to use the ship with my alt as a sensor booster. It makes a great disposible ship fitted with 4 remote sensor boosters. For jamming the cap is two weak.
