When I was last in New Eden, a destroyer could sacrifice itself and remove a retriever and a T1 Tornado could remove a Hulk/Mack. I have heard there has been changes to the mining ships that prevent successful solo removal of a miner from high sec.
Is it still possible to pull off solo removals of miners in high sec?

Actually the new thing seems to be bumping them and charging them ISK to leave them alone.

Soloing mining ships is still done, there was a web page somewhere where you could see all the solo kills, mostly macks since it's king at the moment of mining but short answer yes cause too many knuckle heads play the percentage game and don't tank.

Most of the anger comes from "those damn sociopaths" still not quitting EVE despite CCP's best efforts to turn highsec into a nonPvP ISK farm with Inferno 2.0 and Crimewatch.

They've kind of escalated from the bumping, it's turning into a full blown gankfest, since the C&P miner bumping thread.
The way I look at it is that the miners got what they wanted, a stop to the bumping, now they just explode by the dozen.

With the new bounty system, you can just about break even on most ganks. If they drop any T2 modules, you can slip slightly into the positive (this is assuming you loot your own wreck with a neutral alt).

That would require them to have imagination. Huge prerequisite for some.
To OP: ganking still happens. It just requires a bit more homework to figure out which over-entitled muppet is actually tanked (yeah, right), and which ones are not. Logically, the latter are easiest to solo gank. Although the occassional 300 mln Hulk with faction fit tanking modules can be juicy at times, too.

Sometimes you can do even better - the ones that fit high-meta ice harvester / mining laser upgrades. :) |

The miners have been given the possibility to use ships that tank better for a lower yield, they also have the option to tank it again for less yield, most of the miners pick the mid range ship in terms of tank and fit it for yield, so you can still gank them easily enough. However there are those that mine who look at tank first and then yield and those people sit there laughing at those that still die to a single Catalyst. What was funny is that so many people were moaning about this as a killer blow to high sec ganking, but it was not, enjoy!!!!
To show you how bad some miners are, many have not even bothered to refit their rigs from cargo rigs, lol |

It takes three T1 destroyers about 7s to destroy and untanked mack I believe. CORE frequently fields in squads of 5+ in their code approved ganks. They have a reimbursement policy I believe that covers part of the suicide ship and they tend to be able to loot and salvage to recoup some costs. Also they almost always manage to get the miner to ride the podexpress. Not that they notice it until they get back from being AFK. |
