I had spend some time flying around with frigates on lvl 1 missions. I hit upon a pretty cheap executioner variant wich proved to be very efficient in actual combat vs Rats in .8 and -7, and on beginning missions. I even cleared a sansha 1/10 complex in it. Had a harder time eliminating the structures with it, though.
High slots: 2* Double medium pulse laser Med slot: 1* 1 MW afterburner Low Slots: Basic Heat sink, Basic nanofibers, and a basic cap relay.
Only real skill prerequisite is for the afterburner. With Nav 3, AB 2, I can go 435 without AB, and keep my range open till ~ 12 km. Circle and shoot, using either radio crystals or microwave. Use AB to open the range even more. The heatsink healps with dealing more dmg. The ship is quite good for low volume courrir missions, given it's high speed. Best point is the cost: a combatworthy and fast ship for under 100,000 isk. Not the fastest kiler, but I found that closing to short range with gatlings leaves me somewhat dmged agains the higher bounty rats and rogue drones. I build it just for fun afetr allready using a punisher, and have been using it on a lot of missions. Of course, I later also equiped one with named in every slot... even faster and more devastating.

It's true, the thing is a wonderful first "real" frigate.
Once you have the skills, by the way, a nice upgrade is to add an armor repairer to it. That'll let you handle tougher missions.

I absolutely ADORE the 'cutioner. It looks sexy, it's very forgiving of mistakes due to the speed, and it's got enough guns to put the hurt on anything that isn't a high-end frigate. Heck, you MIGHT be able to handle .6-.5 rats in a 'cutioner, if you're careful and know what you're doing. --- Justice is the only thing I have left. The lives of thousands be damned. |

Indeed, i solo'd 5 guristas 40k rats at a planet spawn.
My setup was something like that:
2x small pulse 1x MWD cap stuff in the lows
I can keep the mwd and the lasers on forever.. it's kinda nice when looking at the price of that setup...

I always liked the Executioner, it's the best looking Amarr Frig by far and no slouch in actual use.

The executioner (and it's TII variants) are pretty much the niftiest looking ships apart from the Slicer.
I <3 the Executioner!

Even when you've progressed to bigger ships, slam on a few overdrives and an MWD and the Executioner gives you a very good way of getting from A to B fast.

Agreed, it is pretty much a shuttle with a (small but useful) cargo bay.
Personally I also adore the bigger brother of the Ecxecutioner, the Crusader. Both are also very useful and fast for running agent missions with smallish cargo requirements, for example...

It fills the same role: Fast Attack Frigate
Executioner, Slasher, Condor, and Atron.

As a proud owner of 3 of the 4 Executioner variants I rate:
Looks: Slicer -> Malediction -> (Crusader) -> Executioner
Battle prowess: Malediction -> (Crusader) -> Slicer -> Executioner
Really should try a Crusader one day...
The Executioner is a very nice starting frigate and one which I reccomend to podpilots just graduating.

Executioner + MWD + nanos = crazy-fast. Very useful for running hostile routes without instas
