with the largest falloff of any turret set in the game, why is it that peopel keep saying "omgwtf dont use projectiles they suck for tracking"
correct me if i'm wrong please, but doesn't tracking only effect your hit-rate inside your optimal range, so say your optimal was 29.5Km and you orbited at 30km, you'd hit every shot?

no. search for lorth's tracking thread to learn all about tracking and falloff, should be on the first second or third page.
falloff is not a blessing for long range turrets, its a drawback since it means you have less optimal. and optimal is more important.

tracking is completely seperate to optimal and falloff, if you need to be at 90k for tracking to cease being an issue, you need to be at 90k for it to cease being an issue, even if your optimal+falloff happened to end at 85k . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Edited by: Farjung on 14/06/2005 14:38:57 Not true. Tracking becomes more of an issue the closer you are but it doesn't become a non-issue as soon as you cross the magical optimal range, just its effects reduce over distance.
Edit: heh, 3 replies already, we're busy little whorumers today

P.S. we haven't stopped complaining as it were, we just see no response to the existing ones, and there's no point continuing to *****, as it's counter-productive.
As to more falloff, that doesn't help, sure I can shoot a med artillery at 40-50Km, but at 20-30 of this I do half damage as I'm in falloff, and closer than 20, I.E. in optimal, the tracking results in mu shots missing cruiser sized targets with cruiser sized guns. I ALWAYS miss as soon as they get within 15Km, and my tracking skills are very good.
Tracking always effects to hit, but at long range, 1000m traveled is less angle to change than up close. Poor tracking means you can't hit up close, and the autocannons have -terrible- optimal, so their damage (usually with a multiplier below 1x damage already) is always reduced further as your hitting within falloff, not optimal.
