I use plusnet.
Nothing less than an A-grade service for the year ive been using them (not been down to my knowledge, except for when BT were doin some work on my exchange). Pings are always some of the lowest on game servers. Downloads are around the maximums for my 512k (which is being upgraded to 2mb for free). And all for ú21.99 per month with free migration.

I use british telecom, always have and will. Yeah i know that they are ú5-ú10 dearer than most of the other providers but you get what you pay for 1.broadband that works 2. excellent customer services 3. you talk to someone who actually knows what they are talking about and they even seem to know windows inside out.

Dont use ISP's that install there own software. For the best chance of being trouble free just use the windows connections by themselves.
I use v21 and i get very good speeds on my 512k line and its only ú16.99 a month no limits. However the customer support isnt top notch (50p a minute indian call center, get more useful replies from the support forum which you can actually understand.

Was with Zen for an age, then switched to Internet Central when they offered 2mb over a year ago, but at the time, it wasn't really rolled out, but I stuck with them anyway. Now 2mb is available everywhere, I'm back to Zen, and never happier. Price just got dropped to ú35/month and I've got static IPs, Email, 1gb web space, usenet access including most binaries and standard rated support if it's ever needed, with people at the other end who know their NAT from their DHCP. Excellent ISP, well worth a lookee.

No limits or caps anywhere.
1mbps download - 128k upload all for less than ú25 a month. ___________________________________________ http://www.eve-tutor.com

Edited by: Basileus on 20/06/2005 08:57:45 I use Freenet. They drop the connection every now and again for a sec or so, which is great when you're doing a lvl 4 mission. Lost a few ships as a result. No reimbursment of course. Ship disappear timer & bad connection = lots of fun

I'm with F2S but thats coz i'm a poor student and me and my flat-mates went for the best (cheapest) option at the time that was offering unmetered access.
Since then everyone has had their ISP upgraded for free to 2MB, whereas i've been overlooked and am still on a 512k, but i havent had any connection probs in the last year and get low pings, so i cant really complain. =============================================

i recomend you don't look at your ISP. theres another post about modems atm.
chances are your modem is overheating. this causes time outs and can lead to sever packet leakage. some modems even just stop for a few hours in extream heat.
on a provider i use AOL. alot moan about them but tbh i never had a problem and im connected 12+ hours a day atleast.

I dumped BT 2 years ago for Pipex. Much better customre service and a more reliable network. Check out www.adslguide.org www.adslguide.org and compare the two. Also Pipex do not have a cap on the service.
They recently upgraded me to a 2Mb service from 512k without a charge.

I've used Telewest for 4 years, good service but they are by far now getting to be the most expensive.
Just signed up for Bulldog Broadband who promise 8Mb connection + Free local and national calls for ú41.50 a month. 1 to 1 contention ratio, no software or logging in and I keep my old phone number.
If it turns out as they have promised I will have 8 times more bandwidth than I had with telewest, same free phone services and save ú20.
Fingers crossed.

I have used Blueyonder for about 4 years now, currently using the 4Mb service and I really can't fault it, it's excellent. However it is rather expensive at ú50 a month, still you get what you pay for in my experience.

I used to use Wanadoo until I got a letter saying, basically:
'Blah blah limit of 30gb blah blah you've used average of 64gb blah blah'.
So I swapped to UKOnline. Problem solved. --------

Same here. Can't say it's superb but... hey, Broadband is Broadband, and they don't require you to have a telephone landline like so many others... ---------------- Haha, stupid monkey! Now I'VE got the Oscar! Enjoy your worthless gun! |

Still on blueyonder as i have for several years. Great service, never down and have had two free upgrades so far. However like someone else mentioned im not paying like ú28 a month for 1mb which is by far the most expensive. Prices at other providers have dropped the past 2 months and blueyonder really needs to do another upgrade as its getting a little silly :/. ----- Eris Discordia; I think the proper term is <3
