That would be correct. All of this will take place in low sec.
The star system for the event will be announced one hour before in this thread, in the "Dust OB" channel, and in the event thread on the Dust beta forums.
With all of the Dust corps that have signed up for the event the fight on the ground will be a who's who of Dust corporations.

Im still new to EVE but my understanding is you can use a destroyer with laser turrets for OB cant you? Also if this may end up in a big fireball in space would it be advisable to use a jump clone?
This would be my first time with anything PvP so a bit scary for me.
Eitherway i will be there to watch everyone go *pop* or to ninja in and *pop* a few dust mercs. I just hope i dont have to fly 40+ jumps to get to the system. |

Fly in what you can afford to loose and make sure your clone is up to date and using a jump clone isn't a bad idea. This is taking place in Low Sec so you WILL get shot at. PvP being scary is one of the main things that makes it fun. Shoot some s*** and have a good time.
For specific questions about how to do Orbitals please use the "Orbital Information Network" channel to keep coms in the "Dust OB'" channel clear. Expect for Dusters to be hopping in an out of voice coms in the Dust OB channel. |

The "Dust OB" guys are planning on having another event this weekend since we had gotten several request from EVE corps that weren't able to get themselves prepped for FW in time. This should be an even larger event. This will also be one of the last Orbital Events happening before the open beta starts, so now is the time to get used to coordinating with Dusters before the rush of new folks. I'll be discussing this weeks prizes with the folks running the event and see if we can't up the ante.

I am formally resigning from hosting future "Dust OB" events.
After Hans Jagerblitzen runs the event this weekend he will pick another person in the community who can then run it the next week after which the process will continue. I have had a blast running these things, but I feel it needs to be completely out of my hands in order to move forward successfully and not be hindered by any drama surrounding myself. I would like to thank Daniel Jackson, Corvo the Shadow, Icy Tiger, Jaiden Longshot, Hans and the many others who have helped me make these events a success and make me not go crazy by posting all of the OB requests myself.
I will always be happy to lend my advice and support to any future hosts if they request it. I will also maintain a presence in the "Dust OB" channel to answer any questions or help in any way that I can. |

I'd be interested in getting Capsuleer opinion on this option included the Dust side event thread:
Kain Spero wrote:Add EVE side betting.
This one is more complicated and must include one of the tournaments, but we've got a few people in the community I know might be able to pull this off.
I think if we could allow the Eve side guys to bet on the outcomes for matchs it could really peak interest and draw some big publicity to Dust and even New Eden as a whole. (Think superbowl or FIFA World Cup with people shooting each other).
This would also have to be kept clearly separate from the charity option if that shows interest as well.
*DISCLAIMER* all betting would be with ISK.
NO AUR, MERC CODES, OR ANY REAL CURRENCY would be allow to be used to make bets.

We have continued to be there for our ground teams and have on multiple occasions fought off pirates and war targets in space above the planet successfully while still providing OB to forces on the ground. While it continues to be a great rush for us we have some problems with what the tournament organizer is doing. We waited until we were out of the tournament to discuss this because we did not want to raise issues while we were in the tournament.
We will no longer be taking part in tournaments where the tournament operator is more interested in media splash and in his boredom continues demand battles in warzones of HIS choosing and then blows operational security by broadcasting to all of EVE where the battles will take place. We will not be taking part or risking our fleets or ground forces because some dude risking nothing and running a tournament gets bored and wants an "audience" for his amusement.
Also anyone who uses the DUST OB channel... we will be watching and waiting to kill ships above tournament areas and Infantry on the ground, I would recommend not using it unless you like getting "blapped" .
DUST2EVE channel is a great place to get your DUST & EVE related questions answered and find targets!

While the systems for the tourney have been announced to allow pilots interested in participating in the events to plan for the occasion, separate faction channels have been created to help increase operational security. Specific planet and district information are being kept to those channels. Pilots should still be cautious when discussing fleet movements though.
Also, since the channel and relationship between the Capsuleers and Dusters has matured I have not been announcing general contracts publicly and expect Dusters to reach out to Capsuleers themselves to arrange for secure orbital support. The Dust OB channel serves as a mixer to facilitate that interaction. Unfortunately, right now there is no way for a Duster to guarantee that he is talking to a pilot of the right faction and that is one the reasons the faction specific channels have been created and are moderated.
I find in unfortunate that you would chose to lash out at the Dust and Eve Online community due to your frustrations over your loss in the tourney. I also find it surprising that you would publicly announce your desire to attack members aligned with HBC and ROFL alliance who will be participating in the finals. The tournament was established to spur interest in Eve for Dust and the over 4 Billion ISK in the tourney betting pool shows that there is a definite interest.
It is up to each pilot to weigh the risks of whether or not to engage in the OB events and to always remember that these engagements take place in low security space. Join the Dust OB channel today and ask questions about how OBs work and talk to Dusters to see how things work on their end. Numerous business relationships have been established through the Dust OB channel and the next one could be yours.
Please check out the most recent tutorial video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQwqINItxPg
Thanks again to everyone who has participated so far in the "Dust OB" events.

Kane I am not going to get into a flame war with you and you make statements which show you are missing a great deal of what was said.

We are an alliance, OSG is a member of the alliance. Our alliance is not in your tournament, but OSG is. If OSG or any other DUST corp in our alliance requests OB support we deliver and we have been doing it just fine including within your tourney and we go in hoping for more than just an OB.
http://covertintervention.com/killboard/?a=kill_related&kll_id=3571 <--- This was during one of the tourney fights and we still delivered the OBs requested on target.
Our alliance like any other good alliance has internal channels supporting our fellow members. We are advising against anyone using the channels you put up... Which we noticed are also vain attempts to advertise and find recruits. Besides... most of the militias already have Highly successful OB channels they should be using, your channels are just a massive leak.
We recommend If a DUST only corp wants OB support, they should privately set that up with a trusted EVE corp or join an alliance with pilots willing to help them... if they use your public Faction Channels they are screwed once everyone figures out what you are doing.

But you have been mentioning contracts publicly. Just. Stop. Doing. It.

You over reach here, and show how little you know. We aren't lashing out and you certainly don't represent the EVE and DUST community at large so please stop pretending to represent everyone. It is a strawman tactic and in this case a poor one.
We specifically waited until our member corp was out of the tournament to make our concerns known of your operating practices. Our Alliance and OSG have been nothing but classy about the whole tournament and we love the fights over the planets on the planets and on our way to the planets. OSG has publicly stated this tournament has forced them to raise their game and improve Their humility and class is one of the reasons they fit in well with the alliance. We will publicly state it has enhanced our own SOP for various tactics to provide OB in hostile space.
Many of our us have of real life friends in HBC and ROFL, some of which are taking part in the tournament as well. I just spoke to one of them today on the phone. We wish them all well and encourage them to continue to work within the tournament they have done well at. So please stop eve-mailing our members making ridiculous statements regarding war threats on HBC or ROFL, it just shows lack of context on your part.
That being said we warned you regarding the information leaks... keep running tournaments like this and see what happens when no one wants to show up because a neutral fleet is going to be waiting for them or worse.
If we had raised the same concerns during the tournament what would your reaction have been? Would you accuse us of lashing out against EVE? or give the same spiel used below on "its up to the pilots to weigh the risks" and then accuse of lashing out against DUST & EVE? in either case... based on your reaction I am only more concerned.
We expressed what our issues are, which is you publicly stating or leaking information which under other circumstances neutral or hostile groups which have nothing to do with the tournament would be unlikely to have either in channels, forum posts, or other publicly accessible locations. We find this risk unnecessary and based on what we have seen thus far you are using it for either your own amusement or boredom, because it doesn't have a purpose serving the tournament itself.
We also bring it up because we also noticed you have a lot less skin in the game than the pilots do for your tournament.

I dont see ROFL or HBC needing those channels any more than any other good alliance so why use them. If a corp needs help that badly we recommend joining an alliance with capsuleers to ensure you get support. |

You are welcome to show up to the Tourney system on Saturday and try to engage targets in orbit. As I said in my mail to you, I hope you do.
The channels have been primarily established for new players who have no idea how to OB. They learn the ropes and then move on to more formal lines of communication. The channel is a mixer for Dusters and Eve pilots and helps put them in touch with alliances, militias, and individuals interested in exploring the links between Eve and Dust.
These events have also been run to provide feedback and testing to improve the game and numerous people have been involved with testing orbital strikes since December.

The OB events are a party that everyone is invited to so show up, have some fun shooting stuff, and, for Saturday, maybe get a billion ISK.
Is this all vain advertising? Absolutely. It's not for myself though. Our corporation doesn't really need any advertising. My main goal is to bring as much attention to Dust 514 as I can through these events and shout from the rooftops regarding the primary direct interaction we have between the games, which right now is Orbital Bombardments. I'm not sure I really see a point to your posts. If you don't want to use the channels you don't have to. I'm not really sure why you would want to try and prevent people from learning as much as they can about the Eve/Dust interaction.
Running OB events is also open to anyone. If you would like to run an event including picking the system, Jon, let me know and I'll get you set up. I'm sure it would be a great opportunity for you to show your alliance off to the Dust community and have some fun.

I support Kain here in this regards. Dust as a game has a lot of potential. After playing 20 years of FPS and game battling I have never ever seen a game the likes of Dust. And its interaction with Eve makes it one of kind.
However the current state of Dust is anything but peachy. For various reasons that I wont go into people are getting bored of Dust. Games either end up in the team being red lined or you red lining the other team which is boring. In the past 1 week I have been in only 1 game that actually went back and forth.
Most FPS like a challenge and like things to go back and forth. That is not happening in Dust. And that's why we need things to keep the people interested in the game. I started of by sponsoring 1 prize for the tourney and now I am sponsoring 2 prizes. things like the Eve interaction and the OBS actually brings out more interest for the game. You were talking about pirates attacking you in space while OSG is fighting on the ground is actually good for the game. It shows the endless potential both games have to offer.
Keeping the gamers interest is a key factor out here. We have seen with CCPs failed Dust tourney it just leaves a bitter taste with the gamers. However player organized tourneys can be really good because its run by people who are passionate about the game and know the intracies involved in it. Not saying that this was a perfect tournament but everyone who played in this tournament said that they learnt a lot from it and even enjoyed it.
All in all this has been a success. Was it perfect? No! Did we learn how to do things better next time? Yes! Is there anyone else trying to organize another tourney? No! Rather than complain about how a tourney was run wouldn't it be better just to run a tournament yourself and see if you can do better? |

What does number of posts have to do with legitimacy of posting? And my point again since you mention you didn't see the point is: You are publicly posting systems where you have decided to hold battles. Why? what purpose does it serve?
We are all about helping new players learn the mechanics, We all help people learn about the EVE & DUST interaction all the time in DUST2EVE and DUST514 Channels. but that is not what you stated your channels were for.

Thanks we have that covered. We run "OB Events" every time one of our DUST Corps requests an OB.
The email you sent was really nice of you, way to keep it classy. The best part for us is the bounty you placed on us, I guess I struck a nerve. I love the passive aggressive spirit! Thanks for the free PvP magnet which will help us get even more fights.

Archibald, check out MAG, the best players in DUST are consistently coming over from there. They already come over seeing the vision of what DUST514 is all about and leaving that other game for this one. We probably played against each other at some point if you were playing FPS 20 years ago, glad to see another shooter from the way back machine.

I agree with you and share your frustrations. DUST514 is still in beta. The mechanics are not installed yet to bring it from a solid FPS to a full MMOFPS yet. It would be an easy assessment to say it will get there eventually. The experience has already improved in the last few weeks as well. The tournament was a nice distraction from most, but how much did any of the DUST members understand how the fights on the planets actually affect the wars in space. OB is just a slice. who wins or loses will also affect how quickly a system can be taken down, and we make sure we explain the stakes are higher than just the fight on the ground. and we know the members who took part enjoyed supporting our alliance mates corp on the ground just as much in the tournament as they did when they request it to help us take a system.

If complaints don't happen tournaments will not improve. I find it interesting you use the word "we". Archibald if you wanted to run a tournament we would probably enjoy the minor distraction from our war provided you also don't publicly and needlessly broadcast the location as well before the battle is over.
We wish everyone still taking part in the tournament the best of luck We hope its as exciting a final battle for our friends. |

Now I'm really confused. I looked through your kill board and your alliance's kill boards and don't see anything that indicates you've ever participated in one of the Saturday Dust OB events.
I really don't think you understand that part of the OB events is fighting over the target. If you think when the districts matter you are just going get a free ride to OBing a target you're sorely mistaken. If you can't handle the combat, that's fine.
I prefer to make events open to the community and not limited to just a select group.
I appreciate the thread bumps by the way.

Infact I am thinking about organizing a one on one merc tournament in April or May depending on when the new build is out. I am willing to sponsor 6 merc packs for the top 3 mercs. 5 mercs per corp and solo if they want to. The brackets will be based on the skill set level i.e. 4 brackets.
B1 = 0 - 1.49 mil sp B2 = 1.5 - 2.99 mill sp B3 = 3 - 4.49 mil sp B4 = 4.5 mill and above
3 for the first place. 2 for the second. 1 for the third.
If you have any other ideas that you would like to try I am more than willing to move my prizes over to a tourney you have in mind.
The only thing stopping me right now are my 60 hour work weeks on my day job and my business taking up my weekends.
And there is no such thing as a complaint. Any complaint is always feedback and something that we should work on. In am Eve challenged lol so when it comes to the Eve side of things I may not get something. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. |
