Edited by: Ugluuk on 20/06/2005 01:56:29 I try to make movies but the quality after i render is bad..
I have made only 1 movie and used the default settings and im not happy with the result..
I think rendering is what makes the quality bad..It gets blurry and you can barely see what is written in chat`s etc..
I use Sony Vegas 5.0..
Fraps is recorded at 25 and half size..
Can someone help me set up my rendering options?

Windows Movie Maker Now if you have made you movie with Windows Movie Maker itÆs a simple process. First off, just to add the finishing touch go to File> Properties and fill this out, when you play the movie this is the information that will scroll around in places so its neat to have it. When your happy Select File > Save Movie File. This will bring up a wizard, select my computer and then name your movie and choose where to save it.
The next option is an important one and will depend on the resolution you have chosen. Select "Other Settings" so you can see the full list. Here youÆll have to choose the best fit to your resolution. Following my settings again i record Eve half size resulting in 640x480 footage, i therefore choose here "Video for local Playback (2.1mbps) to keep the resolution the same. When chosen click next to create your movie.
From the hints and tips thread.
My suggestion would be to export the entire movie from Vegas as a completely uncompressed avi. Import it into Windows Movie Maker and try the above steps.
I have used that technique before from adobe premiere, however now I just encode directly. -- jamesw Rubra Libertas Militia

Regardless of what software you use, here is some general info for compressing video.
If your getting blocky or blurred results, increase the bitrate at which you are encoding. Usually when you get undesirable results it's because your bitrate is too low. The higher the bitrate the better the quality and the bigger your file sizes will be.
So what is bitrate? By giving the encoder a certain bitrate it receives some kind of a budget. For each second only a given maximum of data may be produced. Depending on the kind and complexity of the material this restriction may lead to more or less visible compression artifacts. If there is a lot of movement in a scene the bitrate needed to encode the material will be higher, whereas in a rather static sequence less space is needed. Videos with a lot of picture noise, fast cuts, fades and a lot of movement are particularly difficult to encode.
Keep in mind this is not an exact science so you'll probably have to do some testing to find the balance thats best for your videos.

Regarding the text not being very good in chatts and so on I think you cant make that look crisp and keep video quality up. There has been a few vids out where the text is very nice and I'm like "wow..thats cool" but then the actual graphics is lookin bad.
Not quite sure how to fix that except running at resolution that is so insaine that when coding it doesnt matter... Other hints are appreciated!

Edited by: Shirei on 20/06/2005 14:16:03 If you want to be able to keep both text readable and good quality video, you could try recording at 1280x768 full size. That's not been done in too many movies, but the ones that were at that res always looked pretty neat (for an example, look at the recent ASCN vs. IRON vid). And yes, i know that won't work in your case since you've already recorded your footage, but just saying those are the only vids that had good quality on both GUI text and video.

Usually on movies you can almost read what they write..On my movies you cant that..
I want the quality to be good..atleast so good that you see what i fly..
Vegas is wierd cause i can only save as vegas files..Cant save as avi or something to encode in other programs..
I will try some of the hints i have here now..thank you very much people..:) http://bydi.digilo.net/forum/ http://bydi.digilo.net/evekill/

Adobe Premier for editing, then export an uncompressed *.avi five and use Virtualdub is what I do and think is best.
Btw you should have joined a southern corp rather than a northern one back in the day of useable bb's and cruise missile rifters --------------------------------------
