Just wondering - not complaining.
But is it really so hard for 3D game developers to get ALT+TAB to work in fullscreen? I notice a lot of games have this problem, and usually it doesn't get fixed. So what I'm wondering about is, is this really so fundemental that it would require too much work to fix? Or is this just some kind of nasty bug you can't figure out? :)
Edit - The only reason I really care about this is the fact that the game runs a lot slower in windowed, if it wouldn't it would be a nice workaround, but especially on a lower end PC it really isn't :(

Sorry to hear that. I've been running in windowed since beta and don't notice a slowdown. Windowed is the only way I can alt-tab. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

As you said yourself, many games have this problem. It's not totally a game problem, part of it is due to Windows/gfx drivers.
Mine is currently working okay, but I have had problems in previous patches. Most other games simply crash when I try to switch. .

I played around with DirectX programming (DX7) a while ago. The code needed to handle a fullscreen/windowed switch is nightmarish - I'm not suprised most games have trouble.
Once I tried to code it myself I vowed never to switch screens during a game, it's just to dangerous :) :) Maybe it's easier under 9...

Yatar Kindoki, don't use Alt-Tab then, use Alt-Enter! _________________________________________________________

It's a bit annoying though as that resets all the chat and stuff, but I suppose I could do that then :/

I just use windowed mode in the same resoluton as my desktop. Looks just the same as fullscreen and is far faster to switch to other programs.

I can get alt-tab to work sometimes. I think if something interrupts EVE, like an IM or pop-up, it can't handle that very well. "Calling a black man a racist is just too funny." - most shortsighted person on earth

If your running full screen you often are using another display setting then your regular windows is using. This is why alt-tab does not work.
Personaly i play in windowed version, have it moved up a little bit so the blue bar top is gone and i can at least see the time stamp below. With this i can multitask without problems. Only a few CTD ones a while. :p

I really dont understand why CCP cant fix this.
"Full screen" applications require exclusive access to the video card memory.
Once you ALT-TAB the game loses this exclusive access, and usually texture memory, vertex buffers etc are overwritten with the Windows GUI.
The game can detect when it has lost exclusive mode, and therefore should be able to deal with it.
Its a really simple problem, one I might add that is learnt at the beginner level. It is quite common for coders in their haste to skip this part of their new application, as it is mega boring sh*et...
Once an application has regained control, it must reload all textures, and vertex buffers etc, I just guess nobody wanted to pull the short straw to code this... :)
