One thing about EVE that dosen't really help the immersion of the game is the soundscape. I'm glad that it apparently is getting a bit of attention with the next contentpatch, but its not nearly enough in my humble opinion.
Seperate volume controls for effects, music, UI and speech would be preferable. But they wouldn't really be worth anything before the volume of the sounds themselves have been equalized. I often find myself zooming out from my ship, because some soundeffects are way to loud and/or annoying. I don't belive anybody enjoys listening to a hull repairer. My sugestion is to make an activation sound and a deactivation sound for active modules. If module is on repeat only play the deactivation sound at the end of it's final run... This should off course not include weapons that would have a natural sound (if not in space ) like missilelaunchers & guns.
Apart from that i'd love some more communication chatter with different voices.
To start with, one voice for each race would be nice. They should be invoked when interacting with the different races NPC's, and have different accents.
Examples: Docking personel - "Your docking request have been granted" Jumpgate personel - "Standby - jumpgate activating" Custom officers - "Halt! You are carrying contraband. Discard the goods or face the consequences..." Concord - "You have comitted a felony and will be punished"
Theres really lots of instances that could have their seperate voice. The onboard computer voice should only be used to remark instances regarding the ship itself: Onboard computer - "Initiating warpdrive" Onboard computer - "Autopilot (dis-)engaged" Onboard computer - "Warning ! Hull damage critical" (when hull goes below XX %) Onboard computer - "Selfdestruct sequence initiated"
etc, etc...
Oooh and did i forget to mention an ingame playlist editor ?
Best regards

I posted about this a while ago... Think it is somewhere down there...
I agree some sounds are too laud, some just plain annoying.
Different race voices would be cool. Another reason to look forward to the (already delayed) patch

Persoanlly, id rather CCP kept it as it is, as the money used to hire people to record all of those accents for those sayings etc, would be better off used in areas that are more important.
Sure, it would be cool, but not exactly important enough to waste money on, well, IMO at least. --------------------------------- And so it begins |

Edited by: Raindrop on 23/06/2005 03:15:48 Wait you're telling me noone would be willing from the Eve player base to volunteer her/his voice?
Heck with the fanfest coming they could exploit the influx of different nationalities and make some quick recordings for a bottle of quaffee.
As for the sound effects in general. My neighbours don't like em. I DO!
Nothing like being emerged in a Gasturbine errr warping bubble. Now if only my chair had force feed back and it would shake violentely during accel and decelaration. Raindrop

I think voices and accents would be quite fun to make the game environment more involving.
Capital idea using eve fans to record, they'll do it for free!
Truth is, there is already some of this aspect in the game: If you Zoom in on NPC ships you will hear them chatter but the voices could be made a little louder. I don't mind not understanding what they are saying, it's just nice to hear the tone of voice.
