Just a thought ... courier contract with 2.4bil of assets ... why did you not have collateral set to ... 2.4b??
Even within our corp we put collateral on courier jobs, not due to lack of trust but due to the fact sometimes freighters get killed!
It's a rookie mistake but i guess one that you will learn from. Noticed you already have a new corp, but if you were looking for an industry corp that mixes in a bit of cap construction i would suggest heading to one of the quieter regions, (Genesis etc) and look around there for some miners and industry folk to team up with. |

I learned all this through his API in EVE-HQ while sitting in a coffee shop on holiday.
The lesson? Never trust anyone with all you own, no matter how sure of them you are, remember there is always a number that will make the betrayal worth it. Just do what you did to make it the first time, knowing the mistakes you made should make this time easier.
Are you serious? RL friend as in someone you actually are friends with in RL, would betray you over some numbers on an online game?
This guy must be a real hero IRL.

This "scam" is not really that obvious, because it's not a scam at all.
It's called betrayal. You can never expect that your corp-mates are going to betray you. You never know - unless your joining a corp well-known for it, and then it's all on you for joining anyway - and it's to late when it has happened.
This is incidentally, one of the reasons I preffer to deal with my own logistics and only trust my corp-mates to a specific extent. Some get their jollies from robbing you through your trust. Some get theirs from shooting you, due to your trust, and some enjoy both at the same time.
To the OP, thanks for sharing this, even if it's highly likely more people will fall for this cheese move, and I'm sure others have before. I wish you luck in re-gaining your ISK, and hope you have learned a valuable lesson.
It did cost you 2.4 billion, after all.

Dust yourself off, take a deep breath and get back into it. apply all lessons learned, make a few billion isk and read this forum so you too can laugh at the newcomers crying about how they got scammed because they ignored the basic rules of never risk what you cannot afford to lose, never trust anyone, and everything is a scam in this game... some are just less costly than others. Fly safe. Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much. |

There is only one guy you can trust in this game, his name is Chribba, and he ain't hiring.
For the rest......well, looks like you found a new corp, but if you want to get spacerich again either find a WH corp and have fun there or just take your 5 million, hop in a combat frig or a Venture (you have a better chance of slipping past gatecamps in a Venture...) and head down into Null.
I hear the rats are very fat down there..:)

And to the people that say 2.4 billion is worth the lesson learned, send me $70 USD and feel content. maybe you'd actually enjoy the game if you stopped trying to translate everything into real money terms? I am a casual player and I spend money to play the game. I think CCP likes this.
And I enjoy the game alot thank you. But in retort, maybe you would enjoy life more if you spent less time on this game. This thread has so much content it may be 'Thread of the Year' and it is only January.

OP I feel you will go far in Eve with an attitude that allows you to admit you f***ed up. All you need now is a natural suspicion of everyone and everything (as they are all out to kill and steal from you) and you will be great at this game. Good luck in your journey through New Eden, and I hope that you get sweet revenge on those who stole from you |

Being a "scammer" in the past myself. There is one thing we look for: Stupidity.
Don't be stupid, then a scammer has literally no way of taking your things. Think about what you're doing, there are some people out there that can be trusted, but trust is earned just like in RL.
Would you ask some random guy/girl in RL just to hold on to -ú3,000 for you whilst you go somewhere else for a few hours? No? Then don't in EVE. Simple! Also, Start scamming, it's great ISK income :) -Buhhd |

I've had it happen, albeit the price tag was only around a billion, if that. Fortunately, they only got away with some assets, no money was lost in the venture. What was lost was any desire to be a part of anything nulsec. It probably stung more that a former corpmate and friend did nothing to help me out, he can eat a bowl of...anyways, yeah...I took a risk, there was no reward, move on. You learn as you live, and that's life. Helmet not included. The devil is in the details... |

First off, good job not raging on the forums. "So how do I recover from this" is exactly the right question. Everyone suffers setbacks, and you're taking them in stride.
How do you pick up now? Do whatever you were doing before. You know a lot more this time around and it won't take you long to recover. Consider a change in careers: maybe it's time for YOU to be the bad guy. Suicide ganking is fun. Founding member of the Belligerent Undesirables movement. |

I wouldn't have thought the outcome would be a corp scam like this. Seems shortsighted to me though, a corp member has potential value far outweighing 2.4b imo. but this is a lesson to me, ill look out in the future for short sighted vultures. I love my corp, not going anywhere :) |

Time is valuble. So is money.
A player spends time or money to get isk.
If somebody wastes your time and steals your money that isn't called friendship.
If you want we can be "friends" and I'll come take all your stuff, but its k cuz we (mostly I) will laugh about it. |
