Is it possible to have a shield booster running and still maintain a stable energy capacitor level? I'm running a medium shield booster on a cruiser and my energy level drops rather quickly. I'm using up energy maybe 5 times faster than I recharging.
I've been looking at a lot of builds, and in one of them, it mentions a cap recharger and says it's optional if you can maintain a stable capacitor level. The build included a medium shield booster and 2 shield hardeners. I've been trying to figure out how to recharge energy that quickly and failing MISERABLY.
Any advice?

The only real way to do it would be to run a cap injector along with the sheild booster. You may try 2 small t2 boosters. Maximizing your engineering and elctronics skills will help a bit as well.
Shield boosters should never be run constantly, put it in manual and boost when your shields get a bit too low, then turn it off and let your cap build.
Hope this helps... Shy

Ok I haven't sheild tanked for ages but here goes, Capacitor to increase in capacity size train energy management 5% increase in capacitor size per level.
to improve your capacitor recharge rate train energy systems operations 5 % reduction in cap recharge time per level.
For your shield
to increase your shield capacity train shield management, 5 % per increase in shield capacity per level.
to improve your shield recharge time train shield operation, 5% per level reduction in shield charge time per level.
regarding being able to run sheild tanking continiously I am not sure this is posible with an effective sheild booster.
I run a ferrox with my mission runner with a large T2 booster, amp, hardeners for specific damage I am facing and 3 T2 power diags in the low slots plus, I can still drain the cap if I am not careful.
Some experienced Raven pilots my be able to offer more specific help but my experience is that only a few T2 ships with shield boosting bonus's can run these boosters all the time and fight.
Second you need to let us know what ship your using for specific help but caldari and to some extent Minmater ships shield tank these days.
For mods that offer specific help to shild tanking would be
For mid slots Cap rechargers t1 through named to t2, Shield booster t1 through named to t2, booster amps, For BC's don't forget t2 shield extenders, hardeners off course both active and passive
For low slots, Power Diagnostics t1 through to T2 are about the best low slot mod these days cap power relays used to be good for the cap but the hit you take on shiled boost now makes them not so good.
While your at it you should look at the treads on passive shield tanking this seems to be getting better as of late but i have never really looked at it tbh.

Important notice:
Your cap regenerates more fast at the 33% point. There was a very interesting post on that a while back, if only i wasnt too lazy to find it right now.
If u can somehow manage to keep the cap up at 33%, and regenerate shields, that's what's called a TANK in EVE slang

Thanks! This is exactly the information I was looking for. I am on the right track with my skills/modules. I must have misunderstood the post that stated it was possible to regen energy as fast as the drain from a shield booster.
For now, my skills are still quite low, so T2's and even active hardeners aren't usable yet. In the meantime, I'm finding that a cap booster is quite useful, but it's for emergencies because charges take up so much cargo space.
I do have one question though. Regarding shield hardeners, how do I know what damage type to protect against when mission running? If I'm in a fight, how do I know what kind of damage is being inflicted on me? I don't see that information in the logs.

Linkage
Look up the npc's you are fighting against and it will tell you the damage types to tank against.
You can also use cap rechargers and capacitor power relays to boost cap recharge rate.
Finally, if you train energy systems operation to level 3 (a quick investment timewise) you will increase your natural cap recharge rate by 5% per level (15% total)
Hope this helps.

You sure can. My Raven can run its Large Shield booster II forever with two nosferatus getting me cap and 5 power diags in low slots. -- The best description of alliances, ever:

I find a Large shieldbooster more a BattleCruiser/HAC module then a Battleship module.
But shieldboosters cant be sustained forever, like armor repairers. For the simple reason that a shieldtank has less capacitor recharge possibilities, and usually has half the activation time.

L2s give enough recharge to tank all but the top Angel spawns that I face, and if I used an XL2, I'd have to sacrifice a lot of equipment to fit it CPU-wise. Shield amps, triple hardeners, etc make Large IIs as powerful as an XL.
