Hey forum warriors,
So I decided to give the serpentis mobs a chance after not likeing sansha anymore after the recent expansion. I used to mission against serpentis back in the day with a domi but this time round I want to make use of my gunnery skills and will go with a mega. Question remains now, what is the current "optimal" fit? Are rails cool or are blasters used. And how much anti-ewarr modules should I be putting on my ship?
If possible show me some cookiecutter fits you use in your missions. Thanks in advance! |

Rails are still bad. So are blasters in missions, although it's not as much a joke as it used to be before MWD was enabled in mission sites. The "optimal" fit is pretty much crosstraining Winmatar to supplement that Gallante BS skill for a Mach. The good thing about Serp is that they respond well enough to heat that if you have a high end laserboat (NM, Paladin, sentry navy geddon, not apoc), it's more effective than rail boats. I'd try what the poster above me suggested. As long as you have sentry drone skills to speak of.

Also would agree with most of this. I guess there's a reason for main users of rails in missions being Domis.
Speaking of some anti-Serpentis missions (herp derp Blockade), you have to overcome similar problem to one with Sansha - you must either outrange their EWAR or cope with it. Well, I think that the latter option is more viable with Serpentis than with Sansha |

Oh stop having dreams and just use potato of doom. Drone damage amplifier II is best thing that ever happened to Dominix. (maybe only second to not being baby blue) |

So I went ahead and just tested some stuff, had enough isk lying around to play with anyway!
First I did a normal tank 'n spank rail fit on the mega. While it got the job done in the easy serpentis and other faction missions (not that fast but it still had lots of upgrade potential) it suffered the same problems of heavy ewar hurting completion times as I had on my paladin back in sansha space. I kept reading about the micro jump drive and its uses in outrunning ewarr. I thought I might give that a try and switched to a range fit, in the process also increasing my damage as less tank would be needed. Only did one mission sofar but I like the mechanics of it.
I might try a blaster fit sometime soon, but having no good way to deal with the elite frigs (drones arnt that reliable for me atm, they seem to pop too fast) I dont know if ill be satisfied with it.
This leads to a new set of questions! - For a range fit: Navy domi with sentri's (with rails) or a navy Mega with rails (and sentry's). After playing some in EFT I concluded that while the domi would on paper do more dps, especially when the enemy gets close. But with the mega I would get a slightly better tank with the same modules and my effective range would be a lot higher. Giving the fact I will be using a micro jumpdrive and Might end up 130ish km away from my targets I would have to slowboat back with the domi to get in the comfortable engaging range.
So im leaning towards a navy mega... Could you domi guys give some hints and tips as to why you think the sentry domi is better? I might be missing stuff...
Also is a blaster vindicator viable? As said before I think I would have problems with the elite frigs when you only have elite drones to kill em, or can you fit a web and then blast em with large blasters? Seeing how the target range of the vindi was 50km I concluded that a long range rail fit wont work on it.... |

If you use the test server, it costs you nothing to play with ships. If you fit 2 drone links in the high of the domi and 2 omnidirectionals you will have no problems hitting out at range. I am not a fan of missioning with short range weapons, too much effort to always get in range, even on my NM I will use Tachy's. I did use a torp golem for a while though, but found a torp CNR to work better and I never salvage while I mission. I would suggest sticking with rails if you want to keep using hybrids Oh PLEASE!!! Well got the blackade today, and it was rather **** to do... NPC's can damp out to 105km so you need to get really far away from them. Also at such ranges (in my current fit) rails dont hit much... I wanna get my investment of the mega back at least but im not sure if ill stay in serpentis space afterall. Might just head down to matari space and fight the angels with autocannon pewpew win! If interested I can keep posting my findings here... |

I wouldn't base any decisions on Serpentis Blockade. It was a pain before Retribution and I imagine it's just as bad if not worse now.
Having said that, it's entirely doable. I never had any problem with it in my Nighthawk but it got boring. It turns out to be rather annoying in a Machariel but actually kind of interesting in an Astarte. It took awhile in a Naga, but it proved that range can work. I'd imagine a range fit Megathron, possibly with a MJD, wouldn't have much trouble with it. |

Yeah would have to try it with an a bit more pimped fit, my cheap starting fit didnt dish out enough damage at range to kill the jammers. Ill keep at it for now and might upgrade the ship some and see how it goes |

I have not been missioning much since the changes and this is a Navy Domi fit (get them while they are cheap).
The cap booster is there just to run the repper which should hopefully not really be required because of the range and micro jump drive. You will have to slow boat over short distances or give up mid for an afterburner.
Gardes 750dps at 52km
Wardens 563dps at 123km (drone control range, they will shoot further and control range can be improved by Black eagle augmenters or a T2 rig.)

350mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L 350mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L 350mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L 350mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L Drone Link Augmentor II Drone Link Augmentor II
Large Auxiliary Nano Pump I Large Nanobot Accelerator I Large Drone Control Range Augmentor I
Garde II x5 Hobgoblin II x5 Hammerhead II x5 Warden II x5 Warden II x1 Garde II x1 Hobgoblin II x3 Hammerhead II x1
Range is one way of dealing with serpentis it is an investment but my blaster proteus has no problems in any serpentis mission using close range tactics.

This is what i use for serpantis, gives great natural tank as its a astartes highest resists, and also great dps (950 with cal navy antimatter and 5 hammers) and this obviously negates the sensor damps as your up in their face anyway |
