Hello guys :)
I was playing with EFT last night and trying to find an optimal fit for a Cloacky Solo proteus with probably legion booster dualboxing.
So now, i don't have the eft fit with me, but I'll have it soon.
I had two major problem:
1) 4 guns 1 medium neut or 5 guns. 2) full active 1800dps tank or 250+ k EHP with a 200 +/- active tank? 3) with buffer tank i have no drones due to power subsystem that must be used.
Mid slow : cap booster, mwd, scrambler. with 200navy charge it's cap stable with everything on, or around 15mins, ofc i don't plan to run mwd all the time due to scrambler/blaster setup.
Price is not a problem , the estimated one for my fit was around 3 bil for the ship, plus another probably 2 bil of implants.
Anyone that wanna try with me to find the optimal Solo fit for a cloacky proteus? :)
Other questions where.... how much dps i need to have fun around? with the 4 guns is around 400 dps with 5 it's around 500, buffer or active or buffer/active (small rep) to recover after an engage.

I would go buffer, with the slight amount of active for between fights.
Just for that occasional Heavy Neut. |

Just a thought: If you use a booster legion you can go full buffer on the proteus and then fit a remote armor repper on the legion to repair between combat.
However considering how well active tanking scales with links the best choice would probably to use a full active tank.
Edit: The proteus is all about melting their face as fast as possible, so go for 5 guns. If you are having Smurf problems I feel bad for you son I got 99 problems but a Blue aint one. |

Melting them as fast as possible, but then using an active tank. If i suppose to get the **** out very fast. probably a buffer/small rep would be better. What if i find a ******* ship medium size with rep and i have no neut and i just can't melt it that fast? Probably you would say: GTFO because it's not what a cloacky proteus is for (long engage).
I would like to explain better your toughts. A medium neut can save your ass from a frig tackling you ( **** happens ) that was my primary toughts or can help you to melt another ship with just shutting down everything. How many medium neut cycle I need to shut down a cruiser size ship? Ofc if the guys hasn't a cap booster : / |

Well I can see your point, but 250k buffer aint needed either if you goal is to get out fast. And if you go with a legion booster you will only benefit from the resist link when you have a buffer tank, so you will benefit more from a loki booster.
A t1 cruiser has almost 1500 cap with lvl V skills. A medium neut drains 15 per sec. So dont count on neuting out a buffer tanked ship. The real advantage with a neut will be against active tanked ships, but I don't know how big the advantage will be compared to having the 5th gun. Frigs might be a problem, but dont you have drones?
And another thought: if you go with buffer tank, do you really need a cap booster? A web will be very useful instead. If you are having Smurf problems I feel bad for you son I got 99 problems but a Blue aint one. |

no drones if i fit buffer tank due to change in subsystem. capbooster can be avoided in full buffer tank, absolutely, but ppl with neut are very easy to find around, and a scramb of 26km does is job imho. |

If you fit for buffer you dont need a neut or drones to deal with frigs as long as you have a web. And get rid of the small repper and use your alt to rep you up between combat. So hammer them down with 5 guns with 3 magstabs. The web will also make it hard for them to escape.
If you fit for active tank you might need a neut or drones to deal with frigs. But in return you will be able to tank quite alot of dmg. So if the fight drags out you still have a chance (until you get blobbed to oblivion).
But then I think about it, the buffer variant might be best for you, however you would benefit more from a loki booster with 3 skirmish links and the armor resist one. Speed is always nice, sig helps you tank ships with large turrets and the scram range allows you to change the Electronics subsystem to the one with extra sensor strength which helps you against ecm drones.

with buffer fit i'm slow, that was my only concern, i don't like active fit usually plus active armor fit are not so good : / I would probably go 3 magn with buffer, now the question is... HOW MUCH buffer? Because i can go full ****** 400k ehp, or i could go a bit less and use implants/rigs for something else then buffer. Snake set instead of slave set? dps/speed/buffer rigs, instead of all trimark? If i change the electronic subsystem my scram go down to 16km is it worth the loss for having a bit more scan resolution and a 33 total sensor str?
Loki booster give me a maximum of 350k ehp when legion booster is 420k ehp. Just for info. |

Remember that you are cloaky, so you can just sneak up and appear right next to your target. Protip: uncloak at abit distance (still within your scram range) and burn towards them with MWD, it allows you to bump your target out of align, which increases the time it takes for them to warp. 16km scram is more than you need. However the extra scanress will let you target them faster and the sensor strength will make it harder for ecm drones to land jam. Remember that your targets will rarely want to fight you so they will do what they can to escape.
350k ehp is still alot. If you want, you can replace one trimark rig with a t2 rate of fire rig. It will give you a big increase in dps. If you are having Smurf problems I feel bad for you son I got 99 problems but a Blue aint one. |

OMG so first it's cloaky (no c).
If you really want to have fun, with a bit of GTFO ability, drop the booster altogether. Like you have said, a cloaky proteus is a sneak in and melt target then GTFO affair. So honestly having a bigger buffer isn't as big of a deal. Extra speed also isn't as huge of a deal. If you have to chase your target down in a cloaky proteus you are doing it wrong. And if you are hoping to use that speed to GTFO of a bad situation it's usually too late anyhow.
A really fun combo instead, is your cloaky proteus and alt in a cloaky neut legion.
1. both have nice buffers 2. the neut legion will help with any tackle. Plus it helps to melt anyone way faster cause you turn off all those nice hardeners. In testing a neut legion can drain a C3 site running tengu (which is generally setup for as much cap as possible due to sleeper neuts) in about 20 seconds? That helps far more in the whole get in kill get out than the booster will.
Overall I've personally felt that OGB alts really only help in a longer engagement. In a short surprise gank it doesnt matter as much. |

I agree about the legion, but then is an active dualbox setup, I can't play it from my laptop without being ****** hard probably ahaha. the booster is usefull to scout as well, it's bubble proof and cloaky as well, so can go ahead of my lovely proteus. As you said I tought the same about all the tank and different **** i was discussing about, the main point is uncloak, dish out as much dps as possible, and then GTFO. But because life can't be always perfect as we planned, I was trying to cover myself from different outcome, like a ******* other cloak ship, near my target, a lucky frig landing right after I started engaging my target, you know... the usual ****.
New setup:
I have downgraded the resistance, just to see the difference. With CTYPE i still have: 227k EHP on the lowest resistance (77.2% EM) and on omni damage i have 327k EHP. the price of the ship+fit setup is down to 2,2bil from 3,9bil. Signature is increased a bit because i have downgraded the MWD as well.

You don't need the power core multiplier on cloaky fits which only have 5 turrets. It's for the max gank fits. ACR or Genolutions instead.
Another omission is cap defence, either a NOS or cap booster is mandatory equipment. I run a med neut and med cap booster on mine, without neut you'll have problems breaking many tanks. Shiva Furnace is recruiting! Small gang PVP in wormholes and lowsec. |

Before talking have you at least tried to fit the ship on EFT? If i use augmented capacitor reservoir i end up with a powergrid below what i need of 300! and with 4 turrets slot instead of 5.
About of being neuted i had think about it... that's why at first i had in mind to fly with a cap booster and no web.... but now that i think about it the web is very very handy... i must fix in another way the capacitor proof from neut problem OR is not really a ship to fly in solo. |

Not only tried to fit, but flown the cloaky Prot for almost a year, and always with drones. I do use a Genolution set, it really helps fitting all Gallente ships, and bubbles are very common in wormholes so I'm not eager to use Slaves. I's also argue that Proteus, especially with Legion links, has quite enough tank without them.
DPS with all turrets and 4 turrets+Hob IIs is about the same, but you'll often be in situations where drones start applying their dps before your guns.
Re: web vs cap defense, that is a tough decision. I used to fly with NOS (is enough to fight and win a Pilgrim, which would have soloed me otherwise) and web, but even overheated Void dps is not enough to break a passive Drake for example, so I went for a neut+cap booster.
Here's your fit tweaked to include NOS and drones, no Genos or PG implants version:

Tank is same (ok 1K more), a teeny tiny bit more mobile, you'll lose 56 turret dps, but gain 99 drone dps, plus GTFO and there is still room for one flight of lights- more dishonour drones (sometimes useful to have two sets), web drones or even salvagers.
But I can't stress the importance of cap defence on a Proteus, especially if you decide to go without drones.

I had already come up with that fit, you can even fit a better plate and special mission nos and still have enough powergrid, but the dps goes from 680 to 582 including drones. So i lose a 100 dps but i have drones. I don't know....
In the end if i drop the web for a capbooster i can't go because i have no drones and then i'm really soloable by an SB or whatever can kite me at a distance out of my scram range. If i get drones with the nos I'll never be able to shut off anything and i lose a 100dps that sometime is breaking a tank or not breaking it at all, on the other hand i'm covered vs some kitesetup etc, because i can use drones... but i have the web. I'm still not really protected from a neut ship but we need to assume proteus is not the perfect ship.
It's a ver ******* hard decision. i could fix it running it with a pilgrim, in that case i wouldnt have to care about neut, because pilgrim would shut them down. |
