Are there different Tiers of NPC ships? Currently doing the blockade level 2 and I take out destroyers and Cruisers and most frigates no problem at all, yet there are certain frigates that tend to withstand anything I throw at them.
Guristas are the ones I'm fighting with atm, any info would be great.

NPC factions do have elite frigs/cruisers, as far as elite BS's i'm not sure on. However, Elite Frigs and cruisers are considerably harder to take down and that's probably what you were facing. |

Each NPC type has its own ship, as shown here.
Over here, you can see a database of these ships, including the damage they do and their resistances.
Basically you get normal rats, and you get officer rats that have hugely increased resistances (and also hunt your drones). |

To elaborate on this to clarify further.
There's normal rats which have equivalent of t1 stats for a ship.
There's also elite rats which count towards having the equivalent of t2 resists
Then there's overseers and named ones. They are very common in combat sites called DED's and can drop deadspace modules named ones also known as officers drop officer loot, but theese are relegated to nullsec complexes only. |

Normal rats have only the faction name before their ship type e.g
serpentis patroller (coreli patroller in deaspace, the same but less bounty).
Then there are "elite" versions" which are fulfill the roles of our t2 ships (eg interceptor/assault frig etc.) They are much tougher or faster and can have additional abilities like warp scrambling.
Guardian patroller (corelli guardian patroller in deadspace, the same but less bounty).
There are also the "faction" versions which drop the nice loot and give better bounty but are usually easier to kill than the elte version.
Shadow Serpentis Patroller (shadow coreli patroller in deadspace, the same but less bounty).
To elaborate to the ops question the frigates you are having trouble with are probably elite and are avoiding damage either through good resists (assault frig type) or being very fast (interceptor type). For guristas the elite name type is "dire". |

How would you suggest dealing with them with a <1mill sp toon? I'm gallente so I like to make most use of my drones, easy controlled and I will be able to use T2 drones this Wednesday.
Should I use a Vexor or its BC equivalent? |

a full set of T2 light drones can munch up an elite frigate relatively quickly, but you should keep an eye on your drones. if one gets attacked, call it back into the hangar for a few seconds, then let it back out.

Using a Vexor is very, very rarely a wrong answer ;) I flew it's BC equivalent, the Myrmidon, for a very long time (Im now flying a Dominix when I PvE).
If you're having problems with small targtes, consider using Warrior drones and/or a target painter in the midslots.

NPCs in Eve follow the usual intuitive RPG naming patterns. If a ship is named "Puppy", it's probably fairly weak, if it's "Defender Puppy" or "Guardian Puppy" it's probably stronger, and if it's a "Defender Guardian Puppy Extreme to the Max with and order of Fries and a Cherry on Top" it's probably a significantly tougher puppy, perhaps some sort of pit bull or something.
It's also worthwhile to become generally familiar with what types of ships are actually frigates and which ones are Destroyers, since they have the same size red cross icon, and likewise which are cruisers and which battlecruisers.
As far as dealing with the tougher ships (usually literally tougher, NPC defenses are raised much more frequently than their offensive power in missions), it's a matter of knowing how to bring all your DPS to bear. The easy solution for small ships is to train your drones to interfacing 4 and unleash the hounds, but that requires SP investment you may not care to make. Webs and changing your flight pattern to force rats out of orbit may be better to learn in the long run, in any case. |
