Map should have two new global filters:
1) Select to display optional region only - all other regions vanish from view
2) Select to display optional security status only - all other systems vanish from view
...in any combination with each other and of course all the other already present filter options.
I would find that very usefull. You could probably exapnd on this a whole lot more, but those two would definatley help to reduce map clutter significantly and perhaps even make browsing the map enjoyable.
EDIT/ I'll just add to below as I come to think of stuff.
* Ability to combine already present filters - like the pilots in space with sec level of systems.
* "Jumps in the last hour" should really have options which spans a longer period of time to be able to spot unsused systems more easily.

There shuld realy be an option for us traveling impared for the auto pilot that takes your current sec rating in consideration.

I refuse to believe noone finds this to be a worthwhile issue? Mapfilters as they are are really primitive at best me things!

All very good suggestions, but I doubt they are on top of the priority list for CCP atm. But we can always hope that one day...

Then there's always marking a system to be permanently avoided.
