Greetings,
I keep getting a box flashing up with potenital threats in the area. Is it okay to attack these as the have - security ratings or will my security rating be lowered for doing so?

Dont attack them if you are in a high sec system as you are likely to be severely punished by the police...
You just have to ignore it as if you are in a high sec system they can't really do anything to you...but likewise you can't really do anything to them.
Attacking any player even with a negative sec rating in a high sec sector is an unwise thin to do!

Ok, thanks for letting me know. If i attack them in a low security area would my security rating lower if they have a negative security rating?

Evaluating your threat window:
Yellow Icon: Means that the player has a negative security rating, or a negative faction or player standing set by your corp and should be considered dangerous.
Orange Icon: Means that the player is actively targeting you (hostile action).
Red Icon: Means that the player is actively firing on you (you should be firing back already).
Hope this helps...

actually locking isn't considered a crime by concord so in high sec space you wan't to wait until he opens fire (threat indicator turning red)

Yes as to the threats window devast8tor has it completely right.
In high security areas, do NOT attack anyone first. This will prevent Concorde from intervening. Also be carefull of ANY weapon that does "splash" damage, such as missiles and smart bombs. These types of weapons can in-advertantly damage another player, or another players drones, and bring down the wrath of Concorde on you. --------------------------------------------------
