I've recently decided to get an AC tempest and was hoping to get some feedback on my setup. Basically, just what you would do different or pointing out a bad idea on my part. I have all the fitting skills to 5 except weapons upgrades which is currently at lvl 4.
Highs 5* 800mm 1* 800 heavy prototype 2* rocket launchers
Medium 1* 20k scrambler 1* Target painter 2 1* xl nuetron saturation SB 1* invunerability field 1* 100mn AB 2
Lows 6* gyrostabilizer 2's
The idea is of course to do max damage with a small tank. Would it better to switch out the med slots for tracking computers or something else? Any advice will be apreciated.

Personally I'd go for dual 650mm's and then siege or nos in the last 2 high slots. Upgrading the rocket launchers will more than compensate for the slight loss of DoT.

Is this for PVP or PVE? In either case you are gonna run dry of cap VERY fast. Scrambler good for pvp only so i guess you want pvp?
i also recomend 650s over 800s for most any purpose.
If you want to sheild tank, change your mids to full tanking. Get rid of the invuln field the target painter. 650s will track any bs and most cruisers well. Invuln field will leach cap quickly. "Speak quietly and carry a big torpedo."

I like this one ...
Hi: 6 dual 650mms, 2 hvy nos
Mid: AB, Sensor booster, web, warp distruptor, target painter
Low: 1 med armor rep II and gyro IIs
good dmg and good 1v1 setup
If Jack helped you off a horse, would you help Jack off a horse?!?!?! o.0 |

If this is PvP then ditch the (mediocre) shield tank and go all-out gank (sensor boosters, tracking computers, damage mods etc.) and get someone to act as a warp-in point OR work with insta bm's.
Tanks have very little use in PvP atm, even in small fights gank is still the way to go.
Also AC is a close range setup, i'm not sure if defenders will work all that well at those ranges, personally I find them a tad useless.

against a torp spewing raven the defenders are gold. Keep around 9km from the raven and orbit and the defenders will kill off most of the torps before they reach you. A cruise spewing raven is a different matter, as the cruise missiles travel much faster.
As far as the setup goes, my preference is for a balance between a tank and gank - gank setups very rarely win when you have a very limited engagement range, as a close range tempest does, so the better tank helps get you there alive.
My ac setup is usually something like this:
hi: 6 800 II, 2 rocket launcher with defenders or rockets for frigates med: ab II (mwd are ebil right now considering the painter bug,) 20km disruptor, named web, painter II, heavy cap injector low: L named armor rep, medium tech 2 armor rep, 2 hardeners (based upon expected engagement type - amarr, go with em and thermal. If you don't know what you are fighting go with kin and exp as those are the two weakest resists on the tempest) and 2 gyro IIs.
It works :) =============== Killboard: http://www.celeskills.com

I want to thank everyone so far for all the replies and will be modifying my setup soon. Just to clarify this is for pvp situations.

some ppl do this: 6x 800mm t2, whatever fits(sieges usually) shield tank(all 5 slots) cpuII, 5x dmg mods
Tank lasts for like 30s, but you can rip anything in that time

Edited by: Nanus Parkite on 28/06/2005 15:44:40 Tanks are not useless. The aim of any fight is to kill the other person before they kill you. If fitting a sensor booster allows you to lock and therefore kill 5 seconds faster its still not better than a shield booster which allows you to survive for 30 seconds longer.
I'd also like to point out that its unrealistic to expect people to be using large tech 2 turrets unless they say they can. The majority of players, particularly ones who are newer to using the ship who post on here for setup advice, do not have anywhere near the skills to use tech 2 large guns.
