My Eve client crashes to desktop, I don't know why. I've updated my drivers and everything else appears to be fine. Most of the time it's a crash to desktop, sometimes it's a blue screen of death. What could be the problem?

Hardware maybe? Hard to tell without you letting us know if it happens in anything else, your exact setup and your driver versions. -----------------------------

I've got this problem too, CCP says it may be your soundcard, especially if it's a Realtek AC97, a very used on-board soundcard. you'll have to turn of your sound in the options, but I now, it sucks and it didn't resolved my own problem. It may be your ip too, it's said Eve Online dislikes ip changes if you got a router... and for that I don't remember what the hell to do, I just have lost the game and all my notes about inside... ----

I'm having exactly the same problem as you. I've just installed a new mobo and cpu, which incidentally uses the realtek ac97 onboard audio. As soon as I hit the login screen and the first noise is played my computer completely locks up. I have tried all sorts of tests with other games, benchmarking programs, but everything works fine. I tried to disable the onboard audio in the bios but that just made eve give me an even nastier crash with a corrupt screen this time.
Is there a way to disable eve's audio with a shortcut command? I can't even log in to change the options so im a bit stuck really for now. Are there any known solutions to this? Thanks

Edited by: Bezs Maracas on 30/06/2005 22:08:02 well i've installed the latest ac'97 drivers, and I no longer get complete system lockups. but eve now simply ctd's as soon as the login screen pops up. suppose its a slight bit of progress
drivers are here incase you need them http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True

I believe there was something on how to turn off audio without needing to load the client...? ----------------------------- I'm stupid! :D

right, problem sorted but im not happy. i've had to underclock my memory to get this working and disable audio in the pref.ini, which for a system that can run the latest games, gta:sa, battlefield2 etc... at 1600x1200 with full detail aa and af without a hitch, as well as run 3dmark05, prime95 extensively, it just doesn't make sense.
does eve have issues with systems using 2gb of ram? issues with realtek ac'97 sound? i really don't understand why this is such a problem. im now having to run memory which should be set to a minimum of 200mhz at 133mhz, just to get eve working. can somebody please answer why this is? i have played eve for over a year and have never really had any issues with it, but for showstopping bugs like this to still be present after 2years+ of development, makes me angry.
for those who need to know, add the line 'audio=0' in the pref.ini file to disable audio before you enter the game.

How long has EVE been out? I would have thought things like this would be fixed by now.
I ctd about 10 times a day (not exaggerating!!).
NO other game does this.

I also have this problem, which has got to the stage where I can't actually log in! As soon as my ship's loading into space it crashes, or if I'm lucky I get about 2-3 minutes of game play before my client drops out. This problem has developed over the last three weeks, why?, I have no idea as I'm using exactly the same system / set-up I was six months ago!
I've submitted a couple of bug reports / petitions but haven't had any response.

Open the last file under logs folder.
If the line says something about sound then you have the same problem as few people around. I have the sound off and on 1 specific mission (Kill the Informant) every time it crashes when mercenary fighter (kestrel) hit my caracal with missiles. Yesterday i had 12 crashes to finish that mission. Some other times only 2-3. I don't know what to do. The only solution is delete and put fresh installation of the game (not patched one but get the whole client) but after tomorrow's patch.
