I wanted to search for this, really I did. But I don't see a search function on this forum...is there one and I missed it?
Anyhoo, what purpose does the Tactical Overview server? I turn it on and all I see is the color of the sky change, and big numbers. I have seen passing references to it in other posts like "Use your Tactical Overview more" etc. but I still don't understand how it works...
Help a n000ber out!

Zoom out, and it might give a hint
Basically, it'll have a range thing on it, so you can guestimate ranges much more effectively. also, if you hold the cursor over a weapon/mod, it's max range will be displayed by a semi-transparent sphere and it's max range (including falloff) in a more transparent sphere. It can be extremely useful

And you can use it to see where a ship warped off to... Or see where a ship cloaked...
(on the condition that you had the ship selected first)

Turn it on, them zoom out.
Off the top of my head...
The large bubble signifies max targetting range. Rolling your mouse cursor over things like your mining lasers, nosferatus, jammers, webbers, etc will show a lighter bubble signifying max range. Rolling over a gun turret will show 2 bubbles, the inner being your gunhs optimal range, and the outer being the falloff.

It also draws a line from your plane up or down to anything you have listed on your overview. So if something is above or below you, it's not as hard to lose track of. It's a handy thing to have in a fight.

ive often wondered why doesnt the line actualy lead to the distance a ship is actually at? eg a ship 300km directly above me looks like its at 1km on the tackticle overviw _______________________________________________
