Edited by: Insane Violence on 30/06/2005 11:54:39 pc as follows: 3.6ghz processor Nvidia 6800 ultra pci express graphics card (256mb) 1024 memory sb audigy 2 zs soundcard
This is a good pc but i simply can't run 2 accounts at once. I've tried setting them to low priority, turning sound off, running in window modes but nothing. After a few minutes of running both accounts the pc restarts itselfs. If anyone could give me some help with this problem it would be much appreciated. |

This could be due to a overheating problem . Mine started doing that running just one account . I opened up the tower and cleaned all the dust out and now have no problem now , I can even run up to 4 accounts without a problem :-). Hope this helps ...

Your card is over-heating, probably. Consider getting something like this.

I run two accounts and occasionally have this issue.
Run each account with the priority set to below normal (cntl shift escape in windows brings up taskmanager and then go to processes and select in there)
Sun occalade ships must be disabled and I'd advise other things like updating turrets and orbiting stations to be disabled.
in the prefs.ini files (of both accounts). add a line which readed "audio=0" (without quotes).
run in a lower resolution than your desktop. i.e. my desktop is 1280x1024 but i run each instance of the game at 1024x768 and get about 30fps per account in battles.
I suspect it isn't an overheating problem and it is more an eve issue than anything. To be on the safe side, make sure your bios alerts you if the cpu goes about 70 degrees (if the bios can't do it, some software can i.e. asus boards have asus probe utility but other board makes have their own version)
Hope this helps
What better place than here, what better time than now? |

People say its a overheating problem, but from two accounts your Processor doesnt really top-the-top, and an overheating videocard shows artifacts.
Try to look for artifacts. If you see them, then you need a better coolingthing on your video card.
I can run two accounts on my 6600GT with ease and sun occlusion on and such. Disabling sound is a must though.

Considering that I can run 4 accounts (3 without lag) at once on my P4 3.0gHz machine with only 512mb RAM and an aging 9700 Pro video card, I think your hardware is capable enough.
At this point I'd start looking for reasons outside of Eve itself. Check for up to date drivers, (consider switching to Omega drivers) and make sure your PC isn't inundated with spyware that degrades system performance. Also its a good idea to disable any unneeded system processes that can be using needed cpu/memory.
Also, I've never had to do it myself, but some people swear that it is necessary to run each account from a seperate Eve installation, or even seperate hard drives (just copy the Eve folder over).
Hope I've helped.

On certain bug situations XP defaults to a reboot. You can check Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer to see if that is the case. Look for an event around the time of the reboot with a source of "Save Dump". The contents will look something like this.
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x10000050 (0xe3e1f6f8, 0x00000000, 0xbf17201f, 0x00000001). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini062605-03.dmp.
If there isn't an entry then I will make the assumption it is an overheating problem OR your psu simply can't handle the load. Go to www.sisoftware.net and grab a copy of Sandra. Run the burn in tools and see where your cpu temps go.
My system isn't quite as highend as yours but it runs two sessions fine (windowed 1024, desktop at 1280). Hell even my P3-1K was running 2 sessions (laggy!!) when my main pc died.
