Easy way to test the strength of magnetism vs gravity. The refrigerator magnet. You put it on the door, and it stays there. Therefore, the pull of the magnet is stronger than the gravitational pull of the earth. Refrigerator magnet > Earth.

Actually it's unnaturally tiny, but that has to do with the game not backstory.
let's not be silly, it cant be a galaxy
It is a cluster type galaxy, of course the amount of systems is totally... but I doubt that billions of systems would we useful in a game. Also EVE is unrealistic in so many ways that discussing such details isn't worth it.

Eve is simply a reference to humans starting over in another part of space. There aren't enough stars to make up a full galaxy. It's just simply the stars that humans have managed to travel to.

So it's not just warping through them (which supposedly is scientifically supported) but you can also fly through them?
I read somewhere that the Devs are going to introduce atmospheric flight with the next major Update (Kali?). I wonder how they'd handle gravity around the planets, entry procedures etc., besides the scenery of the planets themselves. BTW, what is a "shark"?
Occasionally you will get agent missions that take place INSIDE them.

Eirelynns linkey:
EVE - EXODUS
"EVE takes place in a cluster of stars far from mankindĘs original habitat, planet Earth. How far away, and whether or not that cradle of civilization still exists, is a mystery. Humans arrived through a natural wormhole and, gazing up upon an alien sky they had never seen, were completely unable to determine where this new world was located. From the New Eden solar system, where the gate of EVE once led to the old world, humans expanded in all directions at a furious pace, exploring and colonizing rapidly."
But in one of the scientific articles called Interstellar Travelling it reads like the following:
"For centuries men speculated from where mankind came. Today, it has been established beyond reasonable doubt that all the different races and factions found in our part of the galaxy must have originated from a common source."
Here they mention "galaxy" but you can find other texts where they mention "cluster of stars" as Eirelynn pointed out. So i guess it is up to you guys to decide what kind of place it really is we live iną

EVE is either a galaxy or a globular cluster, but by the shape of the map most likely a galaxy. It is also far too spread out to be a globular cluster, as clusters are usually at most 500ly wide.
The map only includes systems that humans have built jumpgates in; that is why there's only 5000 star systems, not 100 billion. -- Dark Shikari: POS Consultant!

So the mapped systems are accurately ranged in the map right? SO it doesn't mean that they're mapped that way or this close simply because they are our the closest neighbouring systems with jump drives from our point of refference (say the middle of the map)...They actually have the distances that the map shows in scale-eh?...There simply could be more between them and further out of course.

what we see on the map is only the stars connected by gates, its my opinion that if it showed every star and you could zoom out you would see a huuuuuuuuge galaxy of billions of stars.

It CAN'T be that big. After all, most of the games were created by SENDING a ship there, with crew frozen, over some decades. Even at .5c, that SERIOUSLY limits the size of Eve.

what is limited is the expansion rate of the people building these gates as it takes so long, imagine it started from earth, gates being built in every direction, after 1000 years we have a similar network of connected solar systems, that we can reach, but that doesnt mean that that's all thats out there. hope you see where im coming from

All the following quotes are taken from this story.
Quote: The Amarr Empire itself was slow to make any breakthroughs in this regard, despite their ever-growing space empire. For a long time they made do with ships traveling at ca. 10% of the speed of light, this speed seemed sufficient to them.
Quote: Now, more than two millenniums since the construction of their first jump gate, the Amarrians occupy hundreds of solar systems.
Quote: In the space of 500 years or so the combined expansion of the Gallenteans and the Caldari had almost equaled the total expansion of the Amarrians in 2000 years.
The following quotes come from this chronicle.
Quote: The inter-stellar warp drive technology is fairly new. Until it came along the only way for the empires to expand their territory was to send a ship to a solar system to build a stargate. The latest versions of these construction ships managed a speed of ca. 30% of the speed of light. At this speed a system 10 light-years away could be reached in 33 years, or there about.
Quote: A century ago to the date, before capsules and collision avoidance systems, a Gallentean construction ship set out for the desolate system then known as Ouperia. A stargate there would not only serve as a link between the Peccanouette Circle and the Patrie Perimeter, but would also give access to the rich asteroid fields in the system. The construction ship departed from Villore system, some 12 light years distant. Estimated travel time was 40 years.
So, assuming the Amarr Empire spread out at 10% the speed of light and they had 2000 years to expand, this gives a radius of 200 light years. So at the biggest, the Amarr empire is 400 light years from one side to the other. If you take into account that the Amarr fought the Jovians and Minmatar before warp drive was invented, this means that most empire gates were already done by then.
If you take a look at the in game map and compare the size of the Amarr empire with the rest of the map, it looks like all of Eve takes place in a region about 2500 light years across. So it's much too small to be a galaxy like the Milky Way.
