I have been debating taking a break from eve for a few months now and the night before last sealed the deal.
I was running some goods between systems in high sec when I noticed alot of local chatter from players who dont play eve but play DUST. At first it seemed like a good convo then it just went sour with alot of rated G name calling by the bunnies and rated R comebacks from the EVE players. this resulted in a dust bunny stating that he is reporting all of the eve players who were cursing at them. At this point I realized EVE has become a Themepark.
So its time to find a new game.
I tried the F2P Linear II but it was too much like WOW which resulted in an Uninstall. I have played WOT since beta and love but its no sandbox.
Are there any good sandbox games out there that are worth it because I really havent seen any?
Any sandbox recomendations would be greatly appreciated and if your recomendation actually works out for me I will send you 2 billion isk for the refferal. Before the trolls start flaming and saying "Dust bunnies made you rage quit" I would like to reply that no they did not but they did help me decide to take a break from EVE for a year or so and see what direction CCP is actually taking this game in. I will be back in a year or so If Eve sparks my interest again. Signatured removed, CCP Phantom |

Yeah i know its going to be hard but I would prefer a game inwhich the majority of the player base IS NOT 10-18yrs of age. Signatured removed, CCP Phantom |

I don't quite follow the logic on how you concluded Eve was a themepark now, but here's some suggestions:
The troll answer: IOS has a game called "Sandbox" :)
Real answers:

They both look interesting, albeit fantasy themed, but very sandboxy.
I find that without a good mob to provide one for them, most people would have no mentality at all. |

.. if you know korean language or like to play without knowing what happening around you. Also it's more like "MMO with extended sandbox elements" not "full sandbox" like EVE.

Eve's appeal is in its dark and gritty feel and the commitment by CCP to continually increase the options and potential of the sandbox. I also feel that these goals have been set aside to answer the calls for "balance" and candy.
Please come back and let us know if you find anything.

You have choices out there all depends on what are you looking for.
Mass Effect 2 and Freelancer seem to please a lot of people. But these are only 2 titles, you have a huge market of sandbox games of all types, and this offer will only increase with time but quality is another thread. |

So you don't like EVE that much nowadays, yet you search for a very similar game. Try something else - Planetside 2 maybe ? http://www.planetside2.com/
See ya in 2 months
As an alternative, explore something new in eve....scamming/awoxing, get a new group of ppl. to play with. It's mostly about who you play with and not what and how.

I heard good things about Fallen Earth but it's a shooter and gameplay videos scared me away. I don't think that if you think EVE became themepark than you will find a sandbox MMO which will satisfy you.
I played with pirates of the burning sea before I came to play EVE. It was fun game but the company developed it really slowly and the subscribers turned away so it's barely vegetating with a crappy f2p modell. It is very similar to EVE (shiploss, player driven market, conquest etc) but it could become boring after a while because of the lack of content.
I like minecraft (fun timesink) but it's far to be an MMO.
Archeage could be interesting but it's still in beta in Korea and they are looking for western publishers so it's far from release.
If you are looking for a quality sandbox MMO you are gonna be in trouble because the promising ones are still in alpha/beta. The rest is crap/flawed/uninteresting. |

It's mostly about who you play with and not what and how. I disagree. Miner buffs, WiS, new rookie ships, sound changes, even the new portraits to a lesser extent etc, This direction if it continues will lead to Eve becoming a safe and shiny place. Local is still an intel source but we have very cool new missile effects. Pirates haven't been givin any new tools for catching prey in forever, yet more and more ISK seems to be pouring into highsec. These things are not player created content, it is a direction that CCP has chosen, a change of tack from the original statement of intent.

It's still hanging on by it's toe nails. Last I saw they were preparing for a merge down to a single server. But! They are still working on the new engine, and it's suppose to be out Soon(TM)

ArcheAge promise to be a good sandbox, we'll see if and when released for the western market. Age of Wushu seems a good one too, with many game mechanics similar to EvE.
Not much more sandboxy around for now.

Part of me wonders if it can even be salvaged at this point. I remember seeing EQ for the first time in a GÇ£cyber-caf+¬GÇ¥ or whatever they were called then. It looked really cool, but as soon as the guy opened his inventory and showed me the items warning bells started to go off. I had seen the corrosive effects of force multiplying skills*items*levels in ttRPGGÇÖs. They inevitably lead to a Monty Hall style game experience.
EveGÇÖs Item*implant*skill multiplier curve may be even steeper at this point than comparably aged MMOGÇÖs. When I think the only way to maintain long term stability in a system is with a decelerating power curve.
We will see.

Well of course it was moved we dont want bad press on GD but on a side note I found this little article http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/01/18/mmo-burnout-a-week-with-id-softwares-rage/#continued
I might have to go that route for alittle until I find a good sandbox to play in. Signatured removed, CCP Phantom |

I was in process of writing a response to the one on CfC warfare, and it got locked. Now My post is gone. I hate that. And I dont want to go into a thread dominated by Test and Goons to discus them, there is too much bias to say anything meaningful. Some kid came into one of my threads and started talking **** last night, when I got ugly with him he went and cried to admin.
And that GD white hound bitched about one that he didn't like and it got moved.
Meanwhile that **** about James Earl Ray is still floating on p.1
IDK what their purpose is anymore.
