But do they have enough members to keep them going etc
I have been playing for over 2 years and have put in at least 6 hrs every day since i started,, the most i ever played was 32 hrs straight
But would u believe in Australia Sydney where i live No-one in any computer retail shop has ever heard of this game
I am worried about the longetivity of this game as marketing is so sad

60k + subscribers and growing... nothing fancy but as oveur said we're the biggest of the small and doing quite well.
P.S - CCP has been (for awhile now) beaten the balance and are now making more "isk" then spent. ---------------

When EVE had 6000 players a night and dropping these posts were much more common. They still managed to develop it at a decent rate and largely through excellent word of mouth and clever (but cheap) marketing double the subscriber base. I don't think the game is going to die before we're all sick of it.

EVE marketing tends to be word of mouth. The only print marketing I have seen was PC Powerplay which has had two EVE reviews that I have seen (One right after EXODUS)

Eve is doing just fine
However, I do agree that marketing could do wonders for this game. Hell, I think spin-off media could be very successful. (Sci-Fi original series!!!!)

P.S. I think the galaxy is already busy enough. They would have to add systems if they want new players. Though NWO will help a lot, eve could not handle 2x it's current subscribers even if the server could.

Agreed, I am a PC shop owner & only found out about EVE when a customer come in with a copy but he didnt like it & gave it to me, Since then I moved lots in & even that same guy & his brother who had long since left are back & been here over a yaer. Now im taking um to GW but there fighting it but I almost always win in the end.
I only advertise realy good games & will put poster up but didnt ever see any way to ask ccp & wouldnt be botherd recent, maybe again in future. I have GTR poster only cos that was made for true sim racers witch there aint to many of so it needed lots of help.
60k sub worldwide is realy fairly low but im not shure the server can handle much more & a good income for ccp. _______________________________________

That can go both ways imho. As long as the players experience EVE as fun etc, it will work out well. The more players feeling the other way and it will go the other way.
In many online communities on the net EVE is more or less refered to as grief online, and will probably never get to be all that massive with subscribers, but be more limited to the "special interested" who want something different.

That is one thing that makes this game so different from others, and the players so different from other MMORPG. The game is not advertized as well, the people who play the game stumbled upon it, and were truely curious about the game and enjoy it. They didnt start playing becuase everybody else was playing it.

Actually, I've noticed a lot of EVE marketing in online banner ads EVEYWHERE. They're showing up in google ads, in Mammamedia served ads..and many other ad banner services. Not even counting the host of fansites with ad banners. I can't go anywhere online and NOT see an EVE-online ad after 30 mins.

So I didn't have to download Eve on 14k4 dialup I contacted every computer shop I could find from the Gold Coast/Brisbane/Sunshine Coast and no one had heard of it.
A local computer shop charged me $100AUD to download it for me.

This game has had 50k accounts since a year and a half ago. For them to finally gain 60k this year means a slow growth pattern. The number of monthly highs has stayed around 12k for several months now. Yes it looks like the number of exiters and incomers are about the same and the game may have maxed out its market potential already.

Yes, that's one of the things I think makes this game so great. I didn't hear a word about EVE until a friend of mine in another game gave me a link and said "here check this out", joined up for the beta and been here ever since.
Besides CCP said we recently passed Planetside in active accounts, and SOE *****s their games like no tomorrow. CCP must be doing something right ;)

Hai, motto nihon no hito!
I really want to see how Eve goes into the Japanese community, especially since they are probably more accustomed to insane time sink games like FFXI(which is by far the greatest time waster in the universe imo). |

There has been a few Japanese here in this game, but most of them appeared to have left. Can't remember if there were more players in the Asian region that has come in, but it's very few. Most of the players within the timezone appear to be Australian or New Zealand, playing with US West Coast players still up very late at night or European players playing early in the morning.
The fact that downtime occurs squarely in the Asian evenings (7pm in Hong Kong, 8pm in Japan) is a big negative for this game in Asia. EVE also lacks the recognizability of other games here like FFXI, Legend of Mir (huge in China with accounts by the millions) and Ragnarok Online. Asian players also like deep complex storylines in their MMOs, something that EVE seems to lack.

Planetside killed itself, the latency went right into the toilet very quickly and Sony never bothered to optimize their code. It lags so bad most ppl don't log out of it, they ALT-F4.
