is training up the Scout Drone skill a waist?
Acording to the information on it, each lvl or skill adds +10,000m to the range that you can attack with drones. Well.. i currently have lvl 3 in this skill. Which, acording to its info, should mean that if i target something 25km away from me, i SHOULD be able to order my drones to attack it.
But this does not appear to be the case. Every time i try to tell my drones to attack anything farther than 20km from me, some stupid message box comes up saying that i cannot attack anything further than 20,100 away from my current location.
Is this skill bugged? or is it simply not worth training up?

Galahan, I'm having the same problem, I have the Drone skill trained to 4 but they won't attack until the pirat is at 19km.

There is a somewhat, work arond to this. but it only works if there is only 1 target.
If you have a target locked thats past 20k Shoot at it with a weapon 1 time, the Drones will autoattack it as long as its withen your Skill range. BUT.. ALL of the drones will attack your target once you fire.
Like i said, its a somewhat work around, but if there's more than 1 target, your stuck waiting for them to get withen 20k.

uhm, i think the cout drone skill adds to the maximum range of what one can control his/hers drones before loosing control over them, not the range of there guns o_0. __________________________________________________________ |

They are talking about the control range...
Edit - btw, the topic title is wrong, shot be scout, not combat drone.

it seems to me that scout drone range is in a radius from your ships so that 10km equals out to 5km . this is just my observation. however that work around for me gets my drones to attack out to about 55km. Lvl 4 scout drones skill (8

I haven't verified this, but several corpmates have told me that the scout drones skill will work fine with your smaller drones, but dosn't apply to the hvy combat drones for whatever reason, be it bug or planned.

I had this problem too.
I ended up having to dock, pull all my drones out of drone bay, then put them back.
After using the drones for a couple of days it finaly stopped happening. My guess is after I had put a 100 points or so past level 3 scout drones it stopped happening, and I no longer needed to empty my drone bay each time I logged in.

this sounds strange, im running lv 5 drones and lv 3 scout drones and they happily attack at up to 40km without a fuss, its my blloody mining drones i hate they keep going awol. i have found some of them and the players who found them said that my little drones told them that i beat them daily, this of course wasnt true, its twice daily for the naughty fellows (p.s. if you find n e rogue harvester drones arond the wildlands please ignore their cries and return them)
thanks.

Well, Scout Drones at lvl 4 (points a bit over it) and they won't go anywere above 20k.
Don't know if the work-around works, but that is not what I have Turrets and Drones for... I'm a miner, not a fighter. Feels like a waste to put a gun in a Turret space when I can fit a CU in there.
Just because we are paranoid, doesn't mean you're not out to get us. |

hehe ok, its been a while since i checked this post, but here goes:
The Scout Drone skill lets you operate the Light Combat Drones.
there is a Second Skill that lets you operate the Heavier Combat drones.
BOTH Skills are sapose to ADD to the Range at which you can command the Drone to attack something. ex: Blood Raider is 25km away, with lvl 3 in Either of those two skills, you SHOULD be able to target that Blood Raider, then command the Drone to attack it. But this dosnt seem to work for me. I have to actualy SHOOT at the raider to get the Drones to attack it (even if i miss they still go) But instead of just 1 going like i wanted, all of the drones i currently have deployed race off to it.
I'll Try training a few points into it and takeing drones in/out of my bay in a station and see if that fixes it, but i still say the skill is a bit buggy.

silly question, but what happened to medium drones? Hammerheads for instance are described as "medium scout drones". perhaps the scout drone skill mod doesn't apply to them (even though they need the scout drone skill to use them). Perhaps its yet another of these bugs where modifiers don't apply to everything they should.
