I just have the idea of creating a radio station on eve that could be managed by human players or whatever. It would mean that there is a lot more to listen to than just the music and the endless computer warping everywhere. You could have competitions and everything and just make it basically like a real life radio station. I think it would be a good way to give out news and patch update info aswell.

have to say this is one of the best ideas ive heard in a long time. problem is there are certain guidelines on what music u can play, im pretty sure if you want to play the latest musing by say, Eminem, you have to have a licence or get permission and stuff like that, i think its a legal nightmare and would be hard to impliment, great idea tho.

You'd have to make it a talk-show type of radio channel. Playing perhaps very little music, and what music you did play would have to be copyright free music, of which there is plenty about!
Approach any up coming rock band etc and I'm sure they'd give you permission to play their tracks. Its the established ones you'd have to keep clear of, they'd likely sue first ask questions later!

I used to do a radio show in Anarchy Online, myself and 4 other DJ's would play anything we liked, we researched it throughly and discovered the only restriction was requests, as DJ's we could not play a track requested by a listener with one hour of the request, as that showed that the broadcast was interactive.
We used winamp with the shoutcast plugin to stream to a live365 station, which the listeners tuned into.
We did get quite a following with the people of Anarchy Online, the team at Gridstream Porductions we're always ready to do a show, one of the main DJ's played at least one night a week. When we started there was only four of us DJ's,
DJ Tarryk - Chief and general GOD DJ shadowrunner - Head COOL guy DJ can't remeber his name - played alot of Punk and myself DJ Rythum
After a few weeks it really started to take off and we had to get other people in to help us out, Wyldthing was in charge of everything, and we got dancers, news & storyline staff, more DJ's and a webpage went live, which is still available now on www.gridstream.com.
Anyways I really enjoyed my time in Anarchy Online as a DJ it was fun even if i did loose alot of sleep because most of the team was in the states.
I might even consider starting up again in EVE.

I have played about with shoutcast a bit and you do need a nice fast line to have more than a handfull of users listening. 24kbps is OK radio quality, but with only 256kbps upload speed I couldnt get that many listeners without them all suffering from 'buffering....' The US does seem to have a better deal when it comes to boradband than the UK so maybe one of you guys on a nice fat 10Mb line could do a station.

Excellent idea! I wonder if we can get a line from CCP about this... Yet another great feature to set EVE apart from the rest of those MMOG's... player/fan radio would be great, offical radio has the potential to be even better :)
I really like the sound of this, hope it comes about.

I think its not hard to have shoutcast support on the in-game Jukebox. CCP should contact the guys from WinAmp and implement it. -------

As long as there's no huge downside in not listening to the radio.

great idea, it'd be much better to listen to different people speaking, without constantly listening to the same similar background music of EVE.

As long as nobody plays any of that awful Amarrian opera. That endless stentorian droning gives me a headache! I should think some Minmatar R&B might go down well, or some of the funkier Gallente jazz.

Eve Radio = good idea
i can picture the scene, our roving Eve reportor live at the scene (in a shuttle of course) in a system where a battle is taking place between m00 and carebears annonomous
