I am a returning old player with about 4.5mill skill points (1.2mill in gunnery) I used to own a Megathron and Rupture and a Thorax currently about to finish Minmatar cruiser 4. I want to run agent missions (got a lvl 3 agent) for a while to make some isk back as I gave all my stuff away when I left. Currenlty traded back up to 23mill isk
Should I:
a) Get a cruiser, if so which one (must be Gallente or Mainamtar)? b) Hang on and get a Cyclone? c) Something else?
Thanks in advance

I think battlecruisers are crap to be honest, their too slow and dont have enough hp and tank abilites to make up for their slowness and lack of firepower compared to a bs. Cruiser wise id definately take a Rupture over a Thorax. Rupture is a damn good cruiser for simple brawling with right skills.

i use BC for lvl 3 missions. dont have any problems for them. Brutix is good tho you need good skills for that.

Maybe I should clarify, I'm aiming for a Tempest eventually but that is someway off. In the meantime I want to earn money shooting stuff rather than flying my mammoth all day. Just after something cheaper than a BS but able to do lvl 3 agent missions and kill decent level rats.
I can always chop it in when I have the isk to buy a Tempest

i would recommend the thorax (the best cruiser i think). Don't learn BC it's just a waste of time.

Clyclone is a very nice ship, and if you have good gunnery, even more so --------------------------------------------------

Basically there are those who feel BC are rubbish and those that feel they are good. I suppose you'll have to make your own mind up on that one!
Personally I like them and the Cyclone, despite it's bad press, is a pretty decent ship. Ferox or Prophecy are better, what with their resistance bonus. I've never really gotten on with the Brutix though.

For L3 missions, I would much prefer to be in a BC to a cruiser. The extra shields and armor are well worth their cost. And I used a ferox, which has a missile arsenal that helps a ton in these missions. For some L3 missions, I am sure I would have trouble in a cruiser. BC works almost as well as a BS for these, though. Owyn Commander, Defenders of Order |

they way its intended:
lvl 1: noobship/frig
lvl 2: cruizer
lvl 3: battlecruizer
lvl 4: battleship (maybe +some mates, that speeds things up and reward is still nice)
im not claiming you should use these shiptypes for the missions. i use taranis for lvl 2 and lvl 3 my cruizer can handle easily too.
but from what i heard ferox is exelent for lvl 3, my caracal dan do lvl 3 too but cant tank well..with a ferox you have yourself a tanking beast+ the same damage output.
btw i see you have minmatar cruizer lvl 4: i sometimes use a stabber for deathspace lvl 3 missions because im bored, so it doesnt really matter that much.

I did a few level 3 missions with a stabber, using this setup: high: 4 * dual 180mm, 2 * rocket launchers med: t2 AB, named web, large cap battery low: t2 medium armor rep, 2 hardeners
It's the same principle as the "cap battery" version of the duramaller, it's fun - though a bit risky - and can handle about 90% of the level3 missions. Avoid mordus/silence the informant though.

i used a cyclone for a while on lvl 3s and while it isnt as good as the other battlecruisers imo ,especially at tanking,it is alot better for those missions than a cruiser

I used my rupture for all l3 missions 'cept the extravaganza's.. Silence the Informant took quite a while, but definately doable.
3 x 650's, 3 heavy launchers 10mn AB, 2 x Cap Rechargers Small armor rep, 2 membranes (dependant on npc's, I used magnetic and reactive against angels), tracking computer and gyro.
Change ammo to for different ranges and shield / armor (proton for shields, nuclear for armor etc.)
With the patch, you might wanna go 4 650's, assault launcher, light launcher, but I dunno if it will fit.

It seems to me that people who hate battlecruisers think they're supposed to be a mini battleship. They're not. They're a cruiser that gives up some of it's speed for more hitpoints, powergrid and weapon mounts.
If you get into a fight that you can survive with a cruiser, you'll probably have an easier time in a BC. If it's enough to kill a BC, then you probably should have gone there in a BS in the first place.
