In every PvP game I have seen players fight when they think that they will win. In Eve you do not know your enemies fit, skills, allies, or computer. It is pretty difficult to find a fight considering that it is billed as a PvP game.
Would there be more fights if players perhaps had more intel? Things like:
"Consideration" colors indicating how much more effective another player is compared to you. knowledge of any gang link buffs in play. indicators of fleet or not. And mechanics that did not permit fleeting after combat starts.
This way players would know with greater accuracy if they could win or lose a fight.
This is a youtube playlist going over my first 30 ship losses. Video sucks but the audio came out well. There are some good lessons, and if you know the game there's some funny stories. |

I think one of the best parts of the game is that you don't know what the person you are fighting has. If i knew that someone had a superior fit to me why would i ever bother fighting them. And if i have a superior fit to them why would they fight me? If you have trouble getting fights you are probably looking in the wrong place, because there is always a fight somewhere.
We don't need to change what intel we can currently get just to make it easier to tell if you can win or lose the fight. |

Gang links are going to be moved on-grid anyway.
Fleets are nothing but an interface convenience. People will just not fleet up and still tell each other where to warp to, etc. You can tell when people are together by looking at local and using your dscan. |

Agreed, the unknowing is what makes the game exciting. First off, I'm a noob at solo pvp. I'm chilling in null in my T2 fitted Retrobution when I come across an Incursus. I think to myself, "Oh ****, easy kill." We get it on and next thing I know my shields and armor are going down and he just keeps his armor on the rise. Eventually and embarrassingly my ship blows up and I'm wondering wtf.
I finally checked out my opponents fits and realized he loved the standard dual repped Incursus. I had never flown an Incursus and never actually paid them any mind.
I know now to overheat, don't solo with a fleet fit and don't underestimate anyone. |

On grid gang links have some very hairy technical issues, so I'm not holding my breath on that one.
And did you just say that fleet and "warp to fleet member" do not impact tactics?
