Is there a role-play alliance or group? I can minmax, but sometimes it is too much like work. My favorite way to fit ships is trial and error, that kind of organic development is just more interesting than 2 hours with EFT. And the handicap of working with ships that are not optimal is find of fun all by itself; trying to compensate tactically for hardware flaws and trying different tactics even if they are not optimal. Anyway as I think about this it seems like thats more of a RP sort of mindset and I wonder If it might be fun to get into the game with that crowd, or 3 people and their 2 alt accounts.
Thanks for your time,
This is a youtube playlist going over my first 30 ship losses. Video sucks but the audio came out well. There are some good lessons, and if you know the game there's some funny stories. |

lolrp.
Roleplaying in EVE used to be, if not respectable, then socially acceptable. Now it's seen as something to laugh at. Despite that, there are still some groups that roleplay "unironically". Foremost among these is probably CVA, the "nullsec arm" of the Amarr Empire. You can find out about them by googling "CVA Eve", their website is the first result, if I recall correctly. |

RP in eve is alive and well (mostly), and the IGS is a good place to find some people.
There is a stereotype that RPers never actually undock and do anything, preferring to "shoot" at each other by typing words into chat channels, however I can tell you that this one is patently untrue, and the vast majority of RPers are going to shoot you just as willingly as anyone else. They'll just do it while claiming to work for the Gallente (or, in my case, Glorious Nation of Sansha). |

I'm not overly familiar with the details of Eve, but I think of this character as a character with a story all his own, not just an avatar. I downloaded the book the other day, Eve black, or something like that. Just great stuff. I flew up to the perimeter gate to hopefully see the Lutins effect, so far nothing. And I'm in FW on the Ammar side, so sitting on the Gallente side of that gate has been a bit nerve wracking! It seems like most players in Eve RP to some extent or other. The harsh exterior presented in bio and pic usually fade when you approach someone with obviously OOC dialog. The worst of the pirates especially! I wonder if RP beyond "tough space cowboy" could be encouraged a bit more.

Here is an excellent example of someone RP as a harsh/cool dude
I, on the other hand, is RP as a sassy (debatable a tad ********) sexy girl.. Not that i want men to lust me, but i like fantasizing about rubbing my "twins" when blobbing gets more boring than usual.
Also... my ass when i walk down the hallway to my CQ in black leather-pants.... priceless _____________________________________________________________________________________ Do you wanna PVP? Join us -> https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&find=unread&t=162144 |

Why roleplay when the game is deep enough to give you actual roles? Fighting is Magic |

You are correct, the game is vivid and complex enough that it almost forces RP. The way that people present themselves in game and on these forums is different than who they are in RL. To me that difference is part of RP, and something that I enjoy about the game.
So your question kind of looks like "why RP when you already are RPing?" Because the persona that the sandbox most encourages is actually pretty narrow, tough, efficient, bent on making ISK. But the fictional world of Eve has a lot more scope as far as who you can be and act like while in NewEden.
So I guess I have to say that we are all RPing a little bit anyway, and so if you step in just a bit further more options become available. And I like options.

Because it's fun, really. I quite enjoy being a pirate. I enjoy having motivations beyond "Blow that guy up and take his stuff" while I do it, so I do it as a Sansha's Nation Loyalist. Now when I blow people up and take their stuff I do it because I am prosecuting a war against all.
Other people do it because they enjoy having a little something extra in their game play.
Some people barely RP at all, but enjoy the lore and the people engaged in the lore, and just don't ruin it for the rest of us, essentially playing themselves.
In the end, we're all playing the same game in the same way as everyone else. |

This. At least I hope Corey is right - or at least I hope that most people don't actually really think they are sitting in a spaceship while playing EVE...
Ofc you can't really expect others to follow the storyline that you have written for your avatar - but then again that didn't always worked in p&p rpg, too, back in the old days... |

There is some guy flying around eve roleplaying a curry. an actual curry.
I cannot for the life of me remember his name, and although there is the possibility he is not actually a RP genius but completely a deranged glutton on the run from a carehome somewhere, feverishly playing eve from a string internet cafes - naked save for being smeared from head to toe in tikka masala - he is a spicy god amongst men. |

He doesn't talk much, presumably because he is a curry.
I once talked to a guy online who swore up and down that he was an audio control box of some sort or another. An intelligent control for volume.
