so i was in a low sec mission killing rats and all of a sudden a blue ship came in. I was checking directional scan all the time looking for combat probes, but there were none. I asked him how did he find me and he said he was checking anomalies and found me using only system scanner.
Is that normal? have you had similar issue as well or is just some bug introduced lately? |

If you're in a mission you got from an agent (excluding Faction Warfare missions), the only way for someone to warp to you is by being part of your fleet or using Combat Scanner Probes. Other players missions will not appear using on-board ship scanner. (COSMOS missions might be different but I wouldn't know.) |

It is entirely possible for a well skilled pilot (player skill, not SP) to scan you down using combat probes in 5-8 seconds. What they will do is:
1. get an approximate location on you using d-scan
2. go off of your d-scan to drop probes
3. return to their spot and finalize direction and distance you are from them
4. arrange probes and set scan res (remember probes are still out of your d-scan range)
5. hit the scan button. If they did everything right, they will have a 100% hit on you the first scan
6. either quickly recall probes, or send them back out of your d-scan range for later use
The d-scan portion is what takes the most time, in order to get it right. You will only have a very short window of opportunity to detect those probes. That means that you must hit your scan button every 2-5 seconds RELIGIOUSLY. To the point of ignoring targeting rats, reloading ammo, realligning, pulsing booster.....etc. Otherwise, you may miss them......until they come calling.

Well it's technically possible to bust missions without using probes - I've done it the past as practice for killing ye-old-unprobeable t3 boosters - it's pretty much impossible to do in a reasonable timeframe so it's not something to really worry about.
However as mentioned competent probers can narrow the mission location down on d-scan and get it in one cycle, so that's the most likely explanation for what you saw. |

Bold'd the important part. You don't need probes to scan down anom's, your on board scanner will find them if you are within range. The range for the on board scanner has been increased recently to 32au.. so your not very safe running anom's.

I think GG has noted the potential problem here. Were you running an agent mission or were you clearing some other site?
I agree with previous posters that mission runners can have their ships scanned down very quickly by an experienced scanner, but there are precious few mission sites that do not require combat probes to find (unless you're the mission runner or fleeted with the mission runner). The only ones I have seen have been in lvl4 epic arcs.
So, if you were running 'normal' agent missions then it's unlikely he could find you without using combat probes ... and if he did then I'd appreciate knowing which mission it was so I can add it to that very short list. If you were running other sites then many of them are easy enough to find using the system scanner without probes ... some (e.g. COSMOS sites) donGÇÖt even need that and have a beacon advertising their location.

I am sure I read somewhere that there were some missions that were visible to others once they became active, faction warfare or COSMOS, something like that. Could that be the issue here? The mission became visible once active? We really need more info from the OP, and of course this could be irrelevant if the answer becomes "oh yeah, I was in an anom lawl". |
