how about allowing alliances to build there own jumpgates. pre req for them must be soverignty of the 2 connecting systems and a absurbly high cost, say 50bil for a route (25 bil each stargate). the alliance then could either set a fee for use of the gate or have it restricted to there own members. this would surly make another strategic addition to the game and of having an iga plus make pos' more worthwile

this sounds too powerful could COMPLETLY mess up eve as one alliance can essentially controll halph of 0.0 using htese gates which i assume are hidden and only the alliance can see

they dont have to be hidden, the idea is to control space and make 0.0 more accesible (hell, pirate factions made the smugglers gate). if you spend the time and resources making them and are prepared to hold them then why not. they could be shutdown by soverienty being contested. id see most gates linking deep space with close to empire to make faster travels, but the closer to empire gets more chances of aggressors (and dreads coming to pop you). if there expensive enough there wont be many of them, and give alliances more of a reason and a benefit.

Not a bad idea at all. Needs some tweaking and prevention from exploitation and overpowering, but all in all a good one. congrats! ^^ Rebalance and General Idea thread. Feel free to respond or post your own ideas. |

hmm cost is way to high imo. i would say 1-2 bill per gate also work like outpost .e.g u need to have an aliance POS claiming the system to build also make em concorable so someone can take over and charge ppl to use ect. also as will outposts invincible when a POS is in system. also a restrictioon on distance like the dread jumpdrives so u cantjust creat a gate between teneirifis and say branch. essentualy a way to mak your own 0.0 trade routes and shorted the distance between empire and some 0.0

The idea is good and there actually isn't a reason that powerful factions would not be able to build stargates.
But aren't Titans better than having gates? From what I understand, Titans can house fleets inside them and jump by themselves. I think it would be naturally more prudent to invest in Titans unless you are pretty darn sure of your sovereignty's relative permanence.

arguably Titans will have huge holds, but players cannot be transported by other players... thats the problem.

Another idea: Make it only possible to build gates between systems with outposts, with the gates outside of the outposts.

Gates having to have an outpost to supply them with fuel would be an interesting idea, as long as they can be blown up. Maybe larger gate versions that dreads can use.
