This IS a GAME for those that aren't benefitting from RMT and those not benefitting from RMT should play it like a game and go shoot some spaceships. Grunts who gain nothing from their alliances other than a ticker and safe space (while paying taxes and shooting what their FC tells them to) should ask themselves why they are playing.
Only pressure from below will force the fat cats to risk their cash cows (ISK & $). It's not just about isk or RMT, although i'm sure that's a factor. I think the leaders of some of these groups have more fun playing 'important space diplomat' than they do having wars. Yeah, I agree. They've been much too successful at this though. We know who they are and I can't deny that they're all exceptionally talented and charismatic individuals. Dictators like this seem to be a natural part of human systems of rule IRL and consequently in game too. It just irks me when the rank-and-file seem too eager to defend these (boring) systems. There should be a balance between masters and minions and the relationship is just too one-sided right now. I'm playing very casually now but I'd rejoin either of the blocks and sideline RL to play more if things kicked off. I think lots of people would. In order to be leaders, you need rank and file. Without one of the two, you have neither.
As it stands, the leaders have decided for the rank and file that there will not be sov war for the immediate future. If the the rank and file disagree with this stance by the leadership, the rank and file is more than capable of making a decision to chose new leadership by abandoning their current for something that is more suited to their game-play style.
In other words, if the 'majority' as you claim, actually wanted this war, I would imagine there would be far more decline in alliance populace and there would be far more people defecting to the alliances and coalitions who are pursuing this agenda. Just keep F5'ing Dotlan statistics to see what people actually want. I can't be good enough at this to be able to convince over 2500 people in my alliance that sov war is a bad idea and continue to grow.

I've mentioned in detail several times where and when i lived in different parts of 0.0. Admittedly it wasn't long before i got bored and made my way back to hisec, and one of the alliances was already dying when i joined, which didn't help. Could have made more isk there, but that's not a big motivator for me. I was there long enough to get the 0.0 experience, and realize i didn't like it.
There is also a drunken thread somewhere from when i took a trip to Goonheim during Burn Jita. I DGAF about risk. Just check my killmails to see the losses i've had in different places outside of hisec. None on that drunken trip to Goonheim, though, miraculously. When i logged in the next day i wasn't sure what i'd find.

Something's not quite right about 0.0
The material presented at the last Fanfest by CCP showed that 0.0 was stagnant, all the growth was in wormwhole space. But tbh this problem existed b4 the so called "blue donut".
My take would be that becoming an F1 monkey for entities where a small group of players have all the control and power (moongoo) is actually not that interesting content for people. They get to fight for free thru ship replacement programs but outside of that struggle for game play.
But at the same time several of those entities can continually re-invent their membership through their out of game connections and links so they are sustaining themselves, despite the problems. And this does bring CCP membership revenues.
But a lot of other people coming to the game from different routes are heading to WH where they can play with have a lot more chance to follow their own path, be independent and enjoy the game in many different ways (e.g. PvP, PvE, industry) |
