Well, mostly I wanted to take this discussion up because I see it as a rather important aspect of the game.
I am not sure about some things, so if you guys could help out.
1. If you are not of the race whos ship you fly you dont get all the bonuses?
2. Some races have ships that are rather weak for doing the everyday work in Eve. Like mining. I cannot see any other race with as weak mining capability as the Caldari. The battleships even can only mount four lasers. Sure, I can understand some diffrences, but only having half of some of the other Battleships turret mounts sounds strange to me. And I dont know how many of you guys would use 4 missile launchers when fighting npc pirates for an example??
Well, keep talk comming.

If you have the ship skill you get the bonus.Race doesn't matter.
Battleships are for fighting. It's a sad fact in eve that they are the best mining ships but the ppl useing them for that are going to burn in hell for it :)
Not every ship in eve is a good lone gunman. The battleship you're talking about is a support battleship. It may be a total POS it may be one of the best PvP ships out there.....time will tell ;)

Blackbird cruiser by itself will lockdown a battleship tighter than a Jewish Bank with a penny.
Tell me how that isn't specialized? :)
There are specific roles and ships for different areas you make your choices and go that route.
If you want to mine perhaps reroll and make a gallente ;).

Yes Tie, sadly their is no game mechanic that makes your choosen race different from any other. Aside from your choice of starter skills that is. I'd personally like to see positive and negative bonuses for flying you races ships and that of other races.
I'd also like to see big security/faction hits for killing your own race but faction gains for Amarr killing Minmatar of vice versa.
Actually no, what would be even better would be taking out CONCORD except for in super high security or when there has been a massive blockade in non-0.0/empire such as the mara/passari blockade. Then making a faction system where each race has a faction they dislike and your faction would actually go up for killing them. Your faction would go down drastically for the race you killed but up for their enemy. Then tie agents in with those faction standings and give the higher agents worthwhile missions that potentially lead to things like rare blueprints.
I think with the right incentive a lot more people would be PvPing.

It's true that Caldari ships don't really cut it as miners, and even their industrials aren't as good as other races. But they do make find military vessels, which is where Caldari were meant to be strong. At least they will make good military ships if CCP can bring sanity to missiles. The military strength of the Caldari is in the mix of hybrid weapons and missiles.
While hybrids are looking better these days, missiles still kinda suck. Damage over time, turrets are superior. Even damage per shot, a turret can beat a missile with a little luck. Only exception might be torpedo's, but those are ungodly slow and ungodly expensive. Basiclly unless it's a webbed, warp scrambled battleship with no defenders or smartbombs, don't count on hitting anything with a torpedo.
Missiles need to be alot faster. Missiles need to be alot cheaper, the higher end missiles do not scale well to the increase in damage. Example:
A heavy missile is about twice the cost of a light missile, but it does three times the damage. This is a good deal. It's not even that much slower.
But, a cruise missile is only about twice the damage of a heavy missile, yet it costs five times as much. I cannot think of many targets I would bother firing 12k cruise missiles at.
Torpedo's are about twice the power of a cruise missile, but half the speed. They cost about twice as much and the blueprint costs almost as much as a cruiser (actually, more than some cruisers). All, or at least alot of them, require megacyte to produce as well. Making or buying these in any useful quantities is cost prohibitive. Their damage looks nice, but in truth, you'd do better with turrets for a laughably small fraction of the cost.
With really average hits you can match, if not exceed the damage of a torped in 10 hits. This will take 30-60 seconds of firing. A torpedo travels 300m/sec. From 22 km, it'd take ~73 seconds for the torpedo to reach it's target. I just cannot think of a good argument to use a luancher filled with torpedo's over using the slot for another turret. The turret will do better damage, faster, for less money.
Again, in a nutshell: - Make missiles faster across the board. No future military would employ missiles that can be outrun by a ship (warp drive excluded)
- Make missiles cheaper to purchase as well as to produce.
No reason missiles should not be popular. I think once the Gee Whiz factor has worn off, most people will eventually wake up to the fact that missiles suck compared to turrets.
It'd also be a nice shot in the arm for Caldari and Minmitar ships which both seem made for using missiles.

Exactly how do you equip a blackbird to completely jam a battleship?

You can either use sensor dampners or ecm devices to beat the battleships sensors.
Only a few people I know have gotten into ecm/eccm. Most people opt for more guns shields afterburners etc... Right NOW a black bird probably could shut down a Battleship but as battle ship pilots learn this they will start to carry eccm and sensor boosters to counter the threat.
