As I see it right now, ice may become even more needed due to dreads. Maybe give a mining barge a +3 bonus to ice miner cycle times? Or put out anotehr skill to speed up ice mining, as it is, you can make more money mining scord

Why not just create Ice Mining Barges?
Instead of overpowering 1 ship to multiple bonuses
Would add the variety for miners ==============================================

actually, i think we should have gotten a capital sized barge myself.
mining has become a tad unattractive in the game, imho, but thats because of lack of options...
oh well, my 0.02.

that a kewl idea, a capital mining barge, or similar :D
or maybe, each empire has tried to break the monopoly on the mining barges by ORE, and each converted a battleship to a super-barge thing :D

but preferably not as expensive as the dreads'll be...
i mean the covetor out mines an apoc but is 1/3 of its price so many miners (who saved up isk for a long time) would buy capital mining barge for 500M i believe if it was the king of mining that is, with good bonuses and decent tank and kingsize drone bay

or an ice mining platform? you carry this whopping great thing out in a freighter, which is basically a mini specialised POS. it strips out x number of ice units, then proceses them in situ. cud make it either need stuff to run like a POS, with a time limit per day (to stop belt whoring to excess) or make it limited use before it destructifies in some kewl explosery way ;)

I definitely agree we need both more powerful mining ships, and in general a significant increase in ore yield. For a game based largely on player combat, it takes a surprisingly large amount of mining time to replace a dead ship (someone has to do it since most ships/minerals arent NPC sold). ISK generation is pretty balanced relative to the value CCP put on ships (i.e. insurance payout) but theres just not enough minerals. One of the things Id love to see more of is big glorious battles, but right now most fleets hold back and only fight if they really, really have to because a defeat can screw up a lot of people fast.
The beauty of jacking up ore yield instead of, say, messing with BP requirements or fooling with ISK-generating stuff is miners come out the same (or better) as before because they still have the same size piece of the pie, only its a larger pie now. _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

What ? The ability to Strip a Roid apart in no time at all isn't good enough for you ? And Tech II Barges ? The Barge Aint even been out that long and you want more.

well if you are a corp or a gang you could have the new feigh ship and some of the other could mine and jettsion near you so you can pick up the ore and have a couple in fighter mode for the angels and pvpers

bigger , heavy minning barges like say bs based one with strip miners , perfect . just think how much would your apoc , geddon tempest whatev cost you if miner could decimate roids that much easier . i support any move that cheapens and makes bs's more available .

lol, capital barges, good one
how about "Gargantula", a giant (even bigger than freighters) transportship with a gigantic cargo hold door where you just "scoop" the asteroids inside.
then 12000 amarr slaves (hehe) reprocess these ores on the onboard refinery.
well that's my "never gone happen and I'm happy it about it" idea
ok, now back to the topic
the yield of the large barges is too big that it's only natural that it CANNOT mine alone in 0.5- systems, that would completely kill the game. Why do u think that Merc, Bistot, Arkonor and Co are so hard to mine and coming in very restricted quantities? for a large barge that has 20mins spare time? no deep space mining will never be possible in a large barge (unless you can initialise warp very fast or got a good escort)

i'll post a productive answer too :D
how about Ice Miner IIs and Ice Mining Crystals with the following rules/stats: - the Ice Miner II won't work without the Crystals - Ice Miner IIs with crystal will mine 2 Ice per cycle - Crystals only last about 10-15 cycles
of course this can be supported by other nice skills like "advanced ice harvesting (reduce ice miner's cycle by 5%)" or something like

More skills and some miner specific modules would be very nice.
But as some say, barges shouldnt be able to mine in low systems alone... There mining barges, not fighters...
