Why is this so bloody difficult?
Someone please help! I have wasted an entire evening trying to download a popular PvP overview, unfortunately I don't have a masters degree in IT so have been finding this overcomplicated proceedure an absolute nightmare. I have read guides, watched youtube tutorials but it's not helping.
After all that, the only thing that doesn't show in my overview are ******* hostile ships. Very handy for PvP.
Can anyone please help me or should I just quit this game? |

Hmmm. When I follow the instructions it works, so i'm not sure where you're going wrong or what overview you are using BUT..
rightclick in the tab and load overview profiles and load one that is set up for combat? That tab was probably defaulting to travel or something... |

Could you provide a link to this popular overview that you're trying to download and set up?
Also, what exactly do you need your overview to show/not show? |

It's the Brother benthor overview.

Basically I found myself in a PvP situation yesterday, and the hostile shipe were not appearing in the overview. Even when I had locked them. As you can imagine this is a huge issue when trying to PvP. |

You can manually fix specific problems with your overview by going into the overview settings menu and clicking the boxes for (in this case) the various player ships. In all likelihood if you've got a problem with something that specific not displaying it's a problem with the overview you're downloading, not you. |

The topic is locked, likely it hasn't been updated for crimewatch, was it a criminal/suspect you engaged? if so, might be your states set to not show criminals/suspects/limited engagement since it didn't exist at the time. I reside in Null-sec, so this wasn't crimials etc. I seem to not be seeing anyone with negative standings showing in overview. |

Try going to the Appearance tab and then Colortag, and see if anyone with negative standings is clicked. Might have to do the same with Background, I'm not sure. |

I think the order is also important and if you uncheck bounties it can hide reds with bounties. Can't remember from the top of my head what tab it is, might be Appearance as Sofia said. But if you look at the topics in this section, I've bumped a good topic with solid settings, might work better. "haiku are easy, But sometimes they don't make sense, Refrigerator." |

Not seeing them at all, like no brackets in space whatsoever? ****, man, I dunno, that's weird. Are you seeing non-enemy ships? You might just have player ships unchecked in general if not.
If you mean you're not seeing the color-tag you've assigned them, here's a couple things to check, though:
1. Is the box next to the color-tag or background color assignment checked? If it's not and you want it to be, check it. If you don't want to see it, uncheck it and also move it to the bottom of the list.
2. Check the order of your marks: -- The tag/background color list is in order of _descending priority_, meaning that of all the things that apply to a given pilot, the one that you've put nearest the _top_ of the list is the one that will display.
-- A common mistake is to put good or neutral standing above bad standing. This means that someone that _you_ have tagged as an enemy, but your _corporation_ has tagged as neutral, will display as neutral, because that standing is given priority.
-- A good order to put them in is Active Engagement > FW/War Target > Very Bad (default Red) standing > Bad (default orange) standing > Very good standing > good standing. Put neutral standing at the _very bottom_ of the list so that it doesn't over-write anything else, ever: any standing you specifically set is more important to you than "I didn't set anything".
-- Having the backgrounds set to a different priority than the tags can be a good tool for getting more information out of the overview. Generally speaking you want potential targets that may jump you or vice-versa to be prioritized in tags, so you see them in local, and things that you really need or want to prioritize in immediate combat (like criminal/engagement flags in low-sec) high in backgrounds, since that's more obvious on-grid. |

I find setting up a single tab in the overview simple, but changing one tab seems to change them all. Very non-intuitive on how you save tabs.
Nothing more fun than spending 30min setting up your overview and it "magically" resets itself because saving settings per-tab does not work as expected. |
