I'm looking for some new rpg (or old that I haven't played), but I'm kinda bored with the whole fantasy thing right now. So, I'm basically looking for recommendations on anything without orcs, elves and other pixies that's worth looking at, besides the obvious classics like Fallout and Deus Ex. Preferably for PC, but I have a PS2 that's gatering dust too.

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines was rather good, had a few issues but they were mostly fixed after several patches.
I would also suggest system shock 2 if you can a) find a copy, and b) bear to play the lowtech 3D graphics. SS2 was by far the best scifi rpg ive ever played

the starwars RPGs like jedi academy and kotor are good games...
HK47 is the funniest bot in history...
i really hope they release a FPS game with him in the leading role

Discworld Noir..ok its fantasy but its cool.
Bladerunner...think there is a RPG from Westwood based on the movie.
Vampire both of them were very good.

Aye the SW: Knights of The Old Republic games (on PC & X-Box) are both great RPGs with no fantasy stuff. Elves are traded in for Sith, Dwarves for Jawas, Flaming Longswords for Double-Bladed lightsabers and more. Both are lengthy, replayable and a lot of fun. Jade Empire on X-Box is also a brilliant non-fantasy RPG, set in mythical China, with different martial styles replacing traditional weapon/magic based RPG elements. You can use a martial style on one opponent, a weapon style on another, a "support style" and/or transformation style (turn yourself into a Demon or Golem!).
Combat in JE is real-time, not turn based, though IIRC it can be paused if it gets to hectic. Plays a bit like a movie, with lots of cutscenes, voice acting and what not, but it's a great world, absorbing plot, cool characters (if you remember Korgan from BGII you'll love the Black Whirlwind (wait till you hear the story of his "engagement"!)), mini-games and loadsa replayability. Play through as a good guy with Tiger Paw style, or as a bad guy with Staff style! Romance a guy, a girl, two girls, regardless of your own gender (BioWare were obviously very open minded, but apparently the kissing scenes were left out!). If you don't have an XBox, it's worh getting just for that lot (and while you're at it, you could also nab Halo 2, SC: Chaos Theory and a bunch of other brilliant titles).
Never played Vampire: The Masquerade but I've only ever heard good things about it, so may be worth looking into.
If anyone knows of any recent PC offline-RPGs that are any good I'd be interested to know. I'm lacking for a good single-player game right now. Guild Wars is great but not always other people on (and when they are, they're usually rubbish). And noone is to suggest "Sacred" (unless they know a recent patch has fixed it's endless bugs!).

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'll have to think about Vampire, but System Shock 2 was a great suggestion. One of those games I really wanted to play but never got around to. Too bad it seems to be out of production, it looked like a very well made game, good enough to still be in the budget bins if the theme had been more popular. Oh well, I'll still look for it...
But I think my fantasy aversion will ease up a bit this fall/winter, TES: Oblivion looks quite promising.

I ought to get back to Vampire myself - started it a while ago and then got distracted by Eve again It had a few bugs as I remember, but the atmosphere was so well done they could all be forgiven. There was one section in a haunted house that was just about the scariest time I've ever had in a game  Definitely a game worth playing.

yeah, Vampire is probably the best RPG i've played in recent time. I almost forgot EVE to play it .
To bad that Troika, the makers of vampire has shutdown. I liked their first RPG Arcanum, it had flaws but the storyline was very good and the setting was very interesting.

They were all my all time favourites. Wish there are sequels to them though.

Lol I had sentinal worlds, I may even still have the disk around here somewhere. That game was huge, amazing what you could do with a 1.44 floppy.

I know you already mentioned fallout 2, but I can't help but make a comment. Why can't we have more like it :( The ending narrative of the game was incredibly moving, in fact I might start blubbing now just thinking about it.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City or San Andreas. You can roleplay them very well and think of yourself "as a fallen prince who enters the enchanted alley to slay the disaffected masses"

Arcanum was a great idea, and with the patches slapped on it's a game well worth playing. Think of the setting as "Victorian fantasy" instead of "medieval fantasy". The "order of technology vs chaos of magic" thing was an interesting and refreshing idea, would love to see another game with something similar. And well, you know the developers' connection to Fallout when you for example walk into a brothel and find a sheep in one of the rooms...

But the whole snuff movie/****o atmosphere you get in Vampire when you are in Hollywood, just excellent.
I played as Malkavian the first time around and the dialogue is so damn cool. If you pay attention to what you are sayin and calling ppl you can more or less predict the future, but I didnt get most of it until later.

to be honest, the best rpg ever to be made for the pc is blade runner. Its also probably the least played but a 94% score in pc gamer should convince you. Ive went through it about 7 times and seen like 4-5 of the 13 different endings and im telling you guys, PLAY IT. Its an experience no one should miss out on.
