This is not a whine before anyone comments about it, I am merely asking a question.
I've only been doing level 4 missions for a few days and have noticed that the heavily tanked and hard hitting NPC BS's drop basic modules and frig sized equipment.
Wish I could tank and hit well with the modules that they use 
I've killed Dreads and Domination battleships, only around 30 in total plus loads of other named cruisers and frigs but they all seem to drop junk.
Is the nice loot based on a percentage such as every 1000th kill you get something nice, not to bothered as the loot scraps well and builds up a nice little mineral reserve.
Quite relaxing too having to work out some tactics against big NPC spawns.
Was just wondering

FYI there is a signifant difference in "Dread Pith" and "Dread Gurista". The former dropping crappy loot with some decent named ones quite seldom. The latter drops some uber loot if you are lucky.
Then there are loot tables CCP doesn't seem to get fixed at all like the Dread Pith Massacrers in the Duo of Death mission. Being the hardest "non commander" BS's they've always dropped only frig size loot.
There is the same distintion for angel npc's, beside the regulars you have the "Gist" with some rats with Domination in their name, they are just a bit harder with bigger bounties, not from the "Domination" branch. the former being like "Gist Domination Centurion" (130k rat) and "Domination Centurion" (600k commander version). Disclaimer on bounties due to the cold war patch.
Hope that solves some of the questions ...
