Bull Slater	Posted - 2005.07.13 11:31:00 - [1] I know readers, the shocking truth that I have discovered is that not all PKers, pirates, scurvy space scum, ship popping punks, whatever you want to call them, are bad. I have next to zero PvP experience but my laziness coupled with the recent changes to level 4 missions has lead me to consider PvP / piracy. The problem I faced is one I'm sure most of the PvP players have had when starting out, trying to get experience without losing too much to put you off for good. Well not only did I manage to find someone willing to let me tag along to see how things go but I also spoke to Verone after passing him in a low sec. system. He locked me briefly sending me into a panic and pressing every activated module on my ship bar weapons but I was safe due to there being sentry guns at the gate. After that I convo'd him and was surprised to find him very approachable (sorry, hope I'm not killing your ebil pirate rep. lol) but he did tell me that if I'd been in a belt or in 0.0 I'd have been fair game even though he was more than willing to offer tips and advice for surviving. This was the first time I've been to 0.0 since the last day of beta with the fun that brought around so naturally I was paranoid and wondering if everyone in local was going to try and kill me. Fact is the areas I visited had very few people, a few haulers running around with escorts, some without (braver than me, I felt unsafe in a battleship!) but it was still a lot of fun. There's a carebear side to me that prevents me wanting to pop other peoples ships ..... for now Will this good experience turn me into a PvPer or a pirate? Possibly. I was just surprised to find that most people are approachable and willing to offer advice and help, pirates seem to get a really bad reputation from people they attack. I understand that and the frustration it'd bring is the main reason I've stayed out of PvP, I can't stand losing, and while it isn't for everyone I'm definitely more interested in trying more low sec. activities after this. Oh and Verone, yeah I had fun :D I'm still scared to death of everything in low sec. though, kinda funny the panic I was in when you started to lock me briefly. I'm surprised I didn't self-destruct in the panic.

I never had that problem.... First ship I ever used besides Ibis is a Crow... killed a thorax then warped to a station, pop 1 crow down... NEVER made that mistake again

I have only but the rarest of times met a pirate I have not liked. The open friendliness and willing to lend advise I have found to be refreshing and informative. The worst I have seen is with smack talking, self rightious mercenaries, and carebear indy pilots who spazz because that WAS a load of megacyte they had in thier hold. I think we can all take a lesson from pirates in behaving with dignity and restraining ourselves when stressful circumstances come our way. oh..
