DEVS, CONSIDER THIS YOUR GOLDEN ENGRAVED INVITATION TO GIVE US A FREAKING UPDATE ON THE LAG PROBLEM!!!!!
Things we want to know:
- Are you alive, and understand that there IS a problem?
- Do you care?
- Do you have enough information to diagnose the problem?
- Are you capable of resolving the problem in a timely manner?
- Why do your 'optimizations' result in game breaking lag?!
- Can you duplicate the problem in house?
- Why didn't your 'regression testing' and spiffy new QA manager catch this before patch day?
- And, finally: WHEN WILL IT BE FIXED?!

Wow you're impatient and rude. There are more important things to work on than your ******* lag problem.
BTW, I don't have a lag problem, and neither do many others so that makes this issue non-global across the player base, whereas other issues affect us all.

Thank you for that much needed review. Let me grab a pen so I can quick jot down some notes.

No - It is global.

Yeah..all I'm asking for is some sort of acknowledgement from CCP that they are aware of this issue and are working on it. I understand that these things happen during major patches like this. But it's been over a week now, and anyone not using windows xp seems to be experiencing this issue...so that seems to be a pretty global issue to me

We are trying to resolve a serious issue that amounts to an effectively total denial of service to a great number of people. This is much more important than minor issues (x weapon having 4.5 or 4.75% bonus omg) that might affect the entire player base. Please go back to your tree and return when this has been resolved.

You know, I work on a tech support line and the people that result in the longest calls are just like you. Information, exact and detailed, and PATIENCE while the people on the other end do their jobs is what's required.
You're wondering why no-one's responded to you. Why would they waste time trying to get through your whining when they can be reading useful posts and bug reports, dxdiags and logserver files from people who have a clue? I know that's what I'd be doing. ----------------------------------------------- My Ideas: Drones wish list <-- 2 years old :O

This is some kind of leak. The behavior I have seen since the Cold War patch is this; immediately after starting to play the client runs smoothly. After about 60 minutes I begin to get "freeze"s [1] that last 5-10 seconds. Usually this happens a few seconds after a "scene" change, such as undocking or warping to an asteroid belt.
Rebooting clears the problem for another 60 minutes of play time. This looks like a classic leak problem. Some resource (probably space for textures or something else graphics related) is being allocated and not being released. As the pile of leaked resources gets larger the "freeze"s become more frequent.
Immediately after the Cold War patch I spent most of my time in skirmish combat warping between gates. I don't recall seeing this problem during that time. The last several days (before and after the latest post-Cold-War patch) I've been mining; jumping between belts and stations where lots of objects and textures are being rendered. During this activity the freezes have been consistently appearing as described above.
Because this problem appears to be situational (what you tend to do will either not expose the problem or exacerbate it, as in my case) different people will have different results depending on their activity since the bug appeared. Also, the effects of a leak will be different based on your hardware; if you have enough of whatever resource is being wasted you may never see a freeze.
[1] Freeze is defined as: the client simply halts for a brief period. The mouse cursor can't be moved. Sometimes sound also stops, sometimes it continues while the client is frozen.
If I'm right and this is a problem caused by a leak, then I'm really disappointed the devs didn't manage to identify it and fix it with their bug fix patch on Wednesday. I was really glad to see the Wednesday patch was a client-side patch (I thought it was just a server hot-fix,) because that was a good opportunity to deal with the problem. Alas; there is no improvement. At this point I'm afraid to do anything other than high-security mining because these freezes are capable of getting you killed under the right conditions. Basically Eve is a "mining only" deal until CPP gets off the dime and fixes it.

Since you don't have a CCP tag, I don't give a crap what you think.
Fix the pause bug! Better? ;)

long call = 2 hrs
ccp's inactivity in even responding to these people = 10+ days

CCP has already answered your problem...see news item below...
New Online Record
Yesterday, Sunday, you set a new online player record when 12.895 of you were playing at the same time! No reports of lag were reported, the 'cold war edition' seems to have yet again lessened the server load.
See we have no lag

I worked in tech support for a while too.. some of our sub departments had a "sit on ass" motto and without being pushed you can guess what they did.
I personally feel that CCP are looking into this (and I was told such a thing by someone official, and no that's not an isd member).
I think it's a server issue, not connection issue (as my agents say I am not connected)
I think that it would be a WONDERFUL feature to have a "Status" page that someone would update regularly when there are problems (once an hour, once every few hours) until the problem is resolved.. I think it would be good cause it would do a few things.. Make customers know they count.. Give people a reason to wait for a fix (they know they are not the problem) And people would petition less...
But eh.. I am just me..

There are different issues. It's not one big bug ! In a lot of threads, you can see the me2-effect, I mean people who say, that they have the same problem, but then it shows that they are talking of something totally different.
1) cdts can have a lot of reasons: bugs in the application, driver incompatibility, hardware malfunction due to bad hardware or bad driver/bios settings etc. (even if other programs are working it doesn't mean, that your hardware is ok. The next generation of programs can push your system to the limit, use features of your hardware/drivers that other problems didn't use => crash)
2)freezes (short, long, periodic, random) can have several reasons, the same like in 1) or just heavy swapping / hd activity so that the computer doesn't respond for some time.
3) lags can have severial reasons: connection problem, server side or client side, game, driver, os, hardware etc.
One problem is: Incompatibility issue with Cold War in combination with Win 98(SE)/Win ME. (There is a thread about this). It's client side and it has probably nothing or very little to do with issues under Win XP/NT/2000/2003, especially not with issues that existed before Cold War. I'm quite sure about that this incompatibility issue exists. Should not be too difficult for CCP to find out, what's wrong, since the problem is also noticable at the login screen unconnected (!) just by pressing CTRL+F and watching the fps graph for a minute under Win98(SE)/ME. Must have been a major change to the Cold War client, that is responsible for this.

If the lag and freeze ups were not bad enough i don't think i have been able to stay connected for more then an hour at a time since the last mini patch, usually less. Thats if i can get back in at all. I have not run any missions for fear of not being able to complete them.

We ARE patient.
We just don't like being ignored. I'm sure CCP works very hard to resolve the bug, but why don't they respond on our posts? they don't need to respond ALL the posts, but just one to let us know they see the problem and are working on it.
So what we are asking is, well, read the first post...
